In the 1940’s Chinese Christians expected the rapture. Instead, they got the Communists.

http://www.bibleinfo.com/en/questions/what-does-bible-teach-about-secret-rapture

The word rapture does not appear in the Bible, but it is a term frequently used in conjunction with events relating to the Second Coming of Jesus. The meaning or definition of rapture is the idea that the coming of Jesus will take place in two separate stages. The first will be a secret rapture—or carrying away of the saved to heaven—at the beginning of a seven-year period of tribulation, during which the antichrist will appear. The second phase occurs at the close of this time of tribulation when Jesus will return to Earth in triumph and glory. Can the idea of a secret rapture be found in the Bible? Continue reading below to see what the Scriptures say.

"He exhorts all to look up expectantly..."

The Libs and Democrats were all doing that about a week ago.
I think it was accompanied by hysterical wailing
and screaming helplessly at the sky.

Quit worrying about the Rapture. We're all going to die and face judgment. That's worth getting ready for.

The Bible says that "no one knows the day or the hour" of Jesus' return. It does NOT say it can happen at any time. Paul through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit says that Jesus' return cannot happen UNTIL certain number of things happen.

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. (2 Thessalonians 2:3,4)

The following things have not yet occurred:

  1. the falling away
  2. the man of sin (antichrist) revealed, the son of perdition
  3. the antichrist sitteth in the temple of God (which presumes the temple of God has been rebuilt--hasn't happened)
  4. antichrist shows that he is God

None of these things have happened, although some may try to argu that the first has. None of the remaining have and ALL will precede the day of Lord.

We have more than “just” Jesus’ saying “but of that day...”, we have the examples of the first two people who were “taken up” or Raptured, Enoch (Hanok) and Elijah. The details are below, but in summary, in the first case, once he has been told he is to be taken, Enoch specifically says that he does not know day of his going, but many went with Hanok (Enoch) anyway and were taken up with him. In the second, Elijah is told he is to be taken, but not when, and is told to go to certain places. At each place, the sons of the Prophets asked each day if “today’s the day?”, but they did not go with Elijah, instead choosing to “view afar off”. Only Elijah was taken up, Elisha saw the whole thing, but it seems that the sons of the Prophet did not see or at least did not believe, because they spent several days looking for Elijah.

So of the two “Raptures” the first seems to match most closely our current situation, and the concept of things coming full circle. It teaches us that we will know the season, but not the day. It teaches us that we must continue along “the Way” as we learn wisdom and knowledge and teach it to others.

The Book of Yashar (Jasher), or “the Upright Record”is not Canon, but was referenced at least twice in Canon Scripture. Nothing I have seen so far contradicts the Canon Scriptures, and it explains things that are not explained in Canon Scriptures. For example: Cain’s offered “the inferior fruit of the ground” (Yasher 1:16) and that is why his offering was rejected.

Another Bible story that is more fully explained is the building of the Ark and the ministry of Noah and his grandfather Methuselah during that time. Yashar 5 states several times that those who followed YHWH died before the Flood so they would not feel the wrath of YHWH.

Here is what the KJV says about Enoch (Hanok):
GEN5:21 And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah:
GEN5:22 And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:
GEN5:23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:
GEN5:24 And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.

God. KING JAMES BIBLE TOUCH - KJV (Kindle Locations 250-253). Kindle Edition.

The Book of Yashar (Jasher) Chapter 3 expands Genesis 5:24 to describe Hanok’s ministry from when he was 65 and brought forth Methushelah to when he was taken into the shamayim (heavens) at age 365.

Hanok (Enoch) the first to be “Raptured” said: “I have been required to go up to the shamayim (heavens), I therefore do not know the day of my going. And now therefore, I will teach you wisdom and knowledge and will give you instruction before I leave you, how to act on earth whereby you may live.” And he did so. (Yashar 3:24-25)

There is much more that seems to be applicable to our situation, but the key point is that if Hanok (Enoch) didn’t know the day of his going, then we probably don’t either. However, like Hanok (Enoch) we know that it is soon. Just as Hanok (Enoch) did, we should spend our time teaching wisdom and knowledge and giving instruction on how to live.

It is interesting (Yashar 3:26-38) that a lot of people, about 800,000, followed Hanok (Enoch) as he rode on a great horse that had descended from the shamayim (heavens). Every day for six days, Hanok (Enoch) invites his followers to go back, just as Naomi did to Ruth and Orpah, and some go back, but many stay with him. On the seventh day, Hanok (Enoch) went up into the shamayim (heavens) “in a whirlwind, with horses and chariots of fire.” (Yashar 3:26).

The rapture of Elijah (2 Kings 2:01-18) tells a similar story.
2Ki2:01 And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.
2Ki2:02 And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said unto him, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel.
2Ki2:03 And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.
2Ki2:04 And Elijah said unto him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Jericho. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho.
2Ki2:05 And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he answered, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.
2Ki2:06 And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the LORD hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on.
2Ki2:07 And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan.
2Ki2:08 And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.
2Ki2:09 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
2Ki2:10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.
2Ki2:11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

2 Peter 3:3-4New King James Version (NKJV)

3 knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, 4 and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.”

Now this verse refers more to the second coming.

With regard to the “rapture” (I think the Greek word actually used means more like “snatching away”), this verse is the one pointed to:

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17New King James Version (NKJV)

16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.

There is lots of disagreement with regard to the timing of this event.

With regard to your question, hope this helps!

Not to be combative, but I don’t understand your statement.
What is Paul writing about in I Thessalonians 4:16-17?

Honestly just wondering.

Only the FATHER knows the day, the time and the hour, but we will know the season. JESUS is coming again.

It’s not Canon because it is not inspired by the Holy Spirit.
You can view it as that is what people thought at the time it was written so you view at as historical text but not scripture

Cain’s offering was not rejected because it just inferior .It was rejected because it was inappropriate .
God was trying teach them that the penalty for sin is death.
Something has to die to cover that sin. Cain instead brought the work of his own hands and that is why it was rejected. The work of your own hands will never cover your sins.
The sacrifice is a picture of Messiah dying for the sins of the world .
