A football coach in Coweta County, Georgia, took part in a student-led prayer with his players before a game, sparking a complaint from the Freedom From Religion Foundation.
Coweta County Schools then made a far-reaching decision that impacts every faculty member.
The superintendent sought legal guidance and determined that school employees, including coaches, should not participate in any student-initiated prayer, according to WSB-TV.
A legal memorandum, obtained by The Christian Post, was recently provided to all employees. More from the report:
Representatives of the school cannot participate in any student initiated/student led prayer or worship while acting in their official capacity, a legal memorandum written by Coweta school board attorney Nathan Lee that was passed on to employees at all district schools on Monday, reads.
The memo, which was obtained by the The Christian Post, explains that even if the prayer is student-led, teachers, coaches and all other staff members cannot join hands, bow their heads, take a knee or commit another act that otherwise manifests approval with the students' religious exercise, at least where it would be perceived by a reasonable observer to display government endorsement of religion.

Flippin’ public schools. It’s okay to have sex with your students but it’s NOT OKAY to pray with them. How ****ed up is that?
The coach could probably perform an abortion on a player, but not participate in prayer. LOL, what has become of our country? Our sick country, our sick world... God save us....a planet of pure evil.
Why do atheists have the right to dictate what religion another person must ascribe to? That is not freedom at all.
This was founded a Christian Nation, not an Atheist one. Demanding freedom, evil only uses it to enslave.
THIS is what Robert Mercer should be countering with his billions. Tie the FFRF up in court for a decade while coaches and players pray as they choose.
They should ignore it.
You’re a hero if you take a knee, so long as you’re not thinking about the Creator at the time.
The United States of America shall not have an Established Church. The US never intended to imply that our country was against religion.
The First Amendment as adopted in 1791 reads as follows:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...
Leftist judges are the problem. GOP senators have eagerly approved hundreds of Dem leftists to the federal bench through the decades.
The words “stunning”, “bombshell” or “unbelievable” in a title indicate clickbait. I don’t bite.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
Ridiculous
Teachers are people, too.
