Until a week ago, I had generally been in total agreement with pretty much everything Cardinal Sarah says. But his remark last week gave me pause: Perhaps it is very practical to pray the breviary with my own mobile phone or tablet, but it is not worthy: it desacralizes prayer. The cardinal also suggested that priests should not use electronic devices even for praying the liturgy of the hours. With the greatest respect for His Eminence, its worth considering why many Catholics, clerical and lay, find these prayer apps indispensable. . . .

I agree with the author, thanks for posting this. I haven’t given much thought to using the cell phone with prayer but yes, I think it could be of benefit.
I’ve left prayer requests online before, is this so much different?

The Computer isn’t anymore evil than paper is as a medium for information. Sin can and has be printed in books just as readily as prayers.
That doesn’t mean that books are sinful. As is the same with any technology medium.
I’m a big fan of Cardinal Sarah but this time he is off the mark. Digital media is not inherently different from printed media.
