[Catholic Caucus] Replaced side altar at Saint Patrick's cathedral

Replaced side altar at Saint Patrick's cathedral

For the past few years, Rorate has updated readers with photos and reports of the beautiful restoration of Saint Patrick's cathedral in New York City. You may recall the biggest change was the removal of the 1980s table-altar that was located closer to the nave than the existing main altar. Another change removed the tourist novelty hologram at the Holy Face side altar.

The third major improvement was the deconstruction of the modernist statue of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, which occupied space formerly used as a side altar:

We are pleased to report work has been completed on the new Mother Seton side altar that now occupies that space:

Located in between existing side altars, there is once again visual harmony on the Epistle side of the cathedral. While the new high relief panels are a bit modern in design, they do show the Sisters of Charity in their pre-Vatican II habits. The altar itself was designed by the cathedral's architect, James Renwick, Jr.

Monsignor Robert Ritchie and Timothy Cardinal Dolan are to be commended for this work, as is Sister Margaret, S.C., a Sister of Charity who sculpted the artwork before dying on 12 March.

Wow. How did THAT happen?! Let's say a prayer of thanks for this. I know people are skeptical about Cardinal Dolan, but I know for a fact he is in a terrible spot in the Archdiocese of New York, which is infested with homosexuals. Dolan has made some decisions that make it seem he is sympathetic to them, but I have reason to believe he is being blackmailed — not personally on account of any bad behavior on his part, but because there is so much that has gone on and is going on behind the scenes in New York that, if he makes a move against the gays, the New York Times, will go public with a great deal of very bad stuff going back decades. So, pray for Cardinal Dolan. There are powerful people in the Church opposed to him.

Wow, that’s beautiful! I can’t believe that came from Dolan. Maybe there is hope for him.

Blackmailed like Benedict XVI, huh? You do realize that Modernists are known to do Catholic things some of the time, right? So they can fool unsuspecting folks like yourself.

We visited St Patrick’s when we were in Manhattan in Dec. 2013, I believe. The restoration was well underway at that time. I’m anxious so see the finished cathedral. The new Mother Seton alterpiece is beautiful. Much more fitting.

Nice improvements, I wish someone would replace the hideous modernist sculptures in my parish. We have a Holy Family statue where the child Jesus has 6 fingers! That said, it does look a little like Mother Seton has one of those big “We’re #1” foam fingers in this picture. ;)

If there were a way you could read everything I’ve posted on freerepublic and on various Catholic websites, you’d see that I am very far from being a Modernist and I loathe the current Pope. I am deeply distressed about the state of the Church. However, I have learned about things going on in the Archdiocese of New York that have made me more sympathetic than towards Cardinal Dolan than I used to be. Google “Gregory Mustaciuolo”. If you can figure out a way to root that cancer out of the Archdiocese, I’m sure Dolan would be the first one to say, “Thank you”.

But he’d still be a Modernist. Sorry these guys don’t get my empathy. Just prayers for their conversion.

“Sorry these guys don’t get my empathy.”

You can’t force empathy. Sympathy would be in order, though.

No it wouldn’t be in order. Tell me. Why should I have sympathy/empathy for a Modernist masquerading as a Catholic bishop?
