Two close associates of Pope Francis have accused American Catholic ultraconservatives of making an alliance of hate with evangelical Christians to back President Trump, further alienating a group already out of the Vaticans good graces.
The authors, writing in a Vatican-vetted journal, singled out Stephen K. Bannon, Mr. Trumps chief strategist, as a supporter of an apocalyptic geopolitics that has stymied action against climate change and exploited fears of migrants and Muslims with calls for walls and purifying deportations.
The article warns that conservative American Catholics have strayed dangerously into the deepening political polarization in the United States. The writers even declare that the worldview of American evangelical and hard-line Catholics, which is based on a literal interpretation of the Bible, is not too far apart from jihadists.

>> is “not too far apart” from jihadists.
Nonsense.
Since when does the Vatican become embroiled in politics?
I seem to recall St. John Paul the Great managed to overthrow an empire simply by being a follower of Christ, and not some political activist.
Pope Francis has calumnized an entire population.
Calumny is a grave sin the last time I checked.
>> is not too far apart from jihadists.
Not too far from Communists and apostates.
I am a church going Catholic who doesn't think too much of our current Pope, But I would have to see proof that was said.

Sorry. I only searched the Religion forum and did not see it posted.
Has what was understood to be Truth for so many centuries, suddenly change to unacceptable, because "educated" apostates want to sound "politically correct" in an age of moral delusion.
The Vatican needs to clear out their swamp and get our Church back on track.
Shut up, Pope Francis, just shut up. You’re a socialist impostor posing as a pope. I am an observant Catholic and your left wing politics totally disgust me.
When all you believing Catholics get tired of getting kicked in the teeth by Rome, come join us evangelical Christians. We would be thrilled to have you and I think you would be comfortable among us.
That may be the most unintendedly funny comment I've every read at FR.
Thanks for the invite but no thanks. We’ve had a few bad popes in the last 2000 years but we survive. Popes come and go but the Church remains
>> Money words from Spedaro article quoted by NYT<<<
>>>the Christian roots of a people are never to be understood in an ethnic way. The notions of roots and identity do not have the same content for a Catholic as for a neo-Pagan. Triumphalist, arrogant and vindictive ethnicism is actually the opposite of Christianity.<<<
Here’s where Spedaro makes a huge mistake. He assumes that border control is about ethnics and race and that is not what it is about. From the rest of his position about supposed allegiances and conclusions about Ultraconservative Catholics he misrepresents everything.
>>>Francis wants to break the organic link between culture, politics, institution and Church. Spirituality cannot tie itself to governments or military pacts for it is at the service of all men and women. Religions cannot consider some people as sworn enemies nor others as eternal friends.<<
Here he states that this is What Pope Francis wants, but does not cite anything. And looking at this, its a vague and irresponsible forgetfulness of the fallen world that exists. Jesus said Love your enemies,(Matt:44) he didn’t say ignore distinctions or play pretend in a fairyland.
I would also quote Pope JP II, whom Spedaro needs to read more. He said:
>>”The kingdom is the concern of everyone: individuals, society, and the world. Working for the kingdom means acknowledging and promoting Gods activity, which is present in human history and transforms it. Building the kingdom means working for liberation from evil in all its forms. In a word, the kingdom of God is the manifestation and the realization of Gods plan of salvation in all its fullness.”<< -— Saint John-Paul II No 15. Redemptoris Missio
Prediction: “pope” Francis cuts a deal with the muslims to create a one world religion and government like in Revelation. You heard it here first folks.
...not too far apart from jihadists.”
Doesn’t that mean that Francis should like us?
No, we wouldn't. You don't have Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.
Clergy and laity must unite in a counterinsurgency against Francis and his heretical regime (sooner, rather than later.)
i left out overtly
