Evangelicals, the last holdouts on gay marriage line

ANALYSIS/OPINION:

Resistance and opposition to same-sex marriage has been crumbling among Americans — save for one specific segment of society that’s proving the last wall to even wider acceptance: Evangelicals.

This is not entirely unexpected. But it is uncomfortable. It puts those of most serious faith in a heated spotlight that can be used by the left to showcase the evangelical Christian crowd as discriminatory, as hate-filled, as antithetical to the core values of America.

Standing strong on this point is not only going to prove lonely.

It’s also going to prove a real test of faith — and conversely, a real opportunity to serve Jesus. Look at what’s been going on with the acceptance rate for same-sex unions in the United States, post-Obergefell v. Hodges, the 2015 Supreme Court case that put the kibosh on states’ rights and voters’ wills to decide which way to

[[We’ve probably been given a small reprieve with President Trump’s election]]

We dodged a huge bullet this last election- barely- had a more popular liberal run, We might very well be in deep doo doo- We were very very close to losing our rights this last election, and for now it’s been postponed- but only temporarily- We came damn close to having a homosexual promoting/loving president continue what obama stated- and she would have taken us down very very dangerous paths on these issues

My fear is that next election, there are several ‘well loved celebrities’ and morep opular democrats that are goign to run who are hard left homosexual agenda supporting players, and they will usher far more than simply lighting hte whitehouse in homosexual colors, and bridges in colors supporting homosexuals-

We were losing court cases where our constitutional rights were being violated- bakers forced to violate their religious beliefs if they wished to stay in business, florists, photographers, print makers etc- the left was even coming after churches claiming that it was discriminatory not to have transgender bathrooms made available because they were ‘businesses open to the public’

The next liberal that wins office- our country and constitution are going to be in deep trouble-

The FACT that ghillary ran as a FELON, and got as many votes as she did, does not bode well for this country- By all rights, trump should have won in a landslide- her candidacy should have ended in utter shame for even trying to run with such crimes in her past- I’m not sure i trust America to make the right decision when some popular celebrity or charismatic liberal runs for office again- and i have several reasons for believing that- one is that we’;re now in a ‘gimmedat society’

[[but that is definitely the direction the general culture and the political left are heading in.]]

Precisely

Traditionalist Catholic would be another group...but apparently we’re too small to matter.

In Orthodoxy, gay ‘marriage’ does not even merit a discussion. The Church canon, tradition, and the Bible are pretty clear about what marriage is.

Their contention is ridiculous, a good number of other-than-evangelicals see same-sex “marriage” as ridiculous as well.

But they just put a target on our backs. Make no mistake about it.

Thanks for making that point, xzins.

The Catholic Church cannot come out pro-sodomy, since neither Divine nor Natural Law has changed. Nor could it. Even in the Catechism, homosexual acts are called gravely sinful and intrinsically disordered.

However there are a lot of Catholics, both clergy and laypeople, especially the young, who apparently disagree with “Nature and Nature’s God” on that point. They’re all now coming out of the closet -— or out from under the floorboards -— under the FrancisKampf.

There are wolves in Shepherd’s clothing.

Much prayer needed here — for every Christian community.

“Most”? Most Catholics voted for Trump, who is, last time I checked, a Protestant and a Republican.

I’d have liked the numbers to be a whole lot more lopsided, but still a majority of Catholics did vote Trump.

All our Christian communities have a huge fight on our hands. Both internally and externally.

Just to get the quote right: the Catholic Catechism calls active homosexuality a sin of “grave depravity.”

It’s called “Holy Matrimony” for a reason, and there ain’t nothing holy about a pair of queers, that’s for sure.

Only between 20 and 21 countries recognize re-defined marriage. That is a tiny percentage of the entire world.

And neither the entire world, nor even a plurality of nations, will likely ever recognize it - at least not without Fascistic force applied.

True and so do orthodox Jews, Muslims, Mormons...traditional African and Chinese family religion...
... socialists and atheists before some time around 1980.

Really, nearly everyone in every time and place throughout history with a few exceptions here and there.

I’m not sure if Lutheran Church Missouri Synod considers itself to be Evangelical, but I am fairly confident that it will never accept homosexual unions.

If evangelicals or Baptists accept “Gay Marriage” I will never set foot in church again.

I agree with the fight.

We Lutherans do it for amusement at times, but it is getting more serious.

Having grew up Baptist, I know that they believe homosexuality to be a sin. I know that they also believe drinking to be a sin. I also know plenty of Baptists who drink and have gay friends. That doesn’t mean the Baptist Church had changed its teachings, it just means people are sinners and live for the world and not God.

Same is true for Catholic’s, which I am now. The Church teachings and beliefs on homosexuality are very clear. But there are many reprobates among us who are more interested in being popular than following Christ. It’s a problem everywhere.

Those of us, Protestant & Catholic alike, who still believe the Truth, should work together not against one another. I get tired of Catholic’s being treated like if there is one or many sinners who don’t follow the Truth then we all don’t. I don’t treat Protestant’s that way because it’s simply not true.

We’ll probably all end up in “Re-education Camps” one day we better learn to get along now.

I think the Bible calls it an abomination. What’s wrong with using that?

I was raised a Baptist, drink and have gay friends.

I don’t approve of “gay marriage “ as an article of faith.

If the secular givernment wants in on the business of gay marriage, fine.

Hell, they could get into polygamy for all I care.

But, the church shouldn’t be in that business.

Oh, and my friends, who are gay, exclaimed their faux “offense” at my position until I explained it to them.

You wanna get married under the law, fine. However, the 1st amendment provides freedom of religion, which means you are free to choose no religion or a religion that condones your position.

You and I are not free to impose some sanctimonious position that violates the other’s rights, otherwise thise rights are no longer universal.

To this day they agree.

Agreed. Abomination is a very appropriate term to use for sodomy.

Evangelicals are not just the last holdouts on Homosexual marriage. Every thinking person knows what marriage is. It is the union of a man and a woman for the purpose of procreation. Homosexuals cannot procreate!
