Rabbi Says Pope’s Homilies Could Threaten Catholic-Jewish Relations
Catholic Culture ^ | 3/13/17

An Italian rabbi has raised a protest against the topic of a conference to be held by the Italian Bibilical Association: “Israel, people of a jealous God. Consistencies and ambiguities of an elitist religion.”

Rabbi Giuseppe Laras said that the conference topic—which had been approved by the Italian bishops’ conference—reflected the influence of Marcionism. (Marcionism, a heresy that arose in the 2nd century, rejected the Old Testament and claimed that the stern God of the Hebrews was not the merciful God of the New Testament.)

Rabbi Laras went on to lament that Pope Francis has frequently emphasized the same ideas. He suggested that the Pope’s frequent denunciations of “Pharisees” and “doctors of the law” could cause a step backward in relations between the Catholic Church and Jews.

“I know very well that the official documents of the Catholic Church are thoguht to have reached points of no return,” the rabbi said. “What a shame that they should be contradicted on a daily basis by the homilies of the Pontiff.”

well, suffice it to say that this Pope’s grasp of holy scripture has seemed rather teanuous at times

(in stark contrast to the previous 3 popes, all politics aside...the previous 3 popes clearly were familiar with scripture)

The biggest problem of Jews is not the Pope, but liberal Jews.

In any event, no one cares about homilies from this supposed pope.

The poor deluded rabbi must not realize that Francis' attacks have been against traditional Catholics only.

Honestly, I've always been kind of an Old Testament guy, myself. As a Bible reader, that is.

So, this Pope can go &*(% &&*(#&*.

But honestly!

So you are owning that your idea of what comprises traditional Catholics equates with those being “Pharisees” and “doctors of the law”?

Well alrighty then.

Well alrighty then.

Francis' idea of what comprises traditional AND orthodox Catholics equates with those being “Pharisees” and “doctors of the law.

What I think he meant, was that Pope Francis mocks Catholics who adhere to to actual Scripture (as opposed to Francis's teachings).

After many long years of witnessing the concept being attacked so viciously on the pages of this forum (more in past years than more recently) I had no idea Sola Scriptura had come so strongly into vogue among traditional Catholics.

Consider the Supreme Court. They have the job of interpreting the law and the Constitution, and providing definitive judgements to resolve any ambiguities and lack of clarity in what has been written. They do NOT have the job of "legislating from the bench", and for them to render judgments that are contrary to the plain language of what is written is a violation of the trust associated with their positions.

Rabbi Giuseppe Laras said that the conference topic . . . reflected the influence of Marcionism.

It also shows the influence of radical higher criticism, which the Catholic Church has used as a defense against Fundamentalist Protestantism for over a hundred years.

Aside from this, I must confess that I don't understand why there are "relations" between Catholics and Jews at all. But then the Roman Jewish community is practically part of the Catholic Church already, considering how often the Popes speak there.

Elsie (not the cow) might say at this point;

["...for you have one Father, and he is in heaven as it is written that the Christ did say]

what Elsie (not the cow, or the cow either, i'd guess) is not likely to do, would be to drop a link to a Bob Marley tune set at the right edge near bottom of a reply. that's my style (and a little lack of proper capitailZation anna' proper preNunciation just to keep on tweaking on HG lol -imma' gonna' be famous! just you wait 'till i get me one of them blogs, you'll see)

It was a short article, with not much quoted from Rabbi Laras.

Does that rabbi have other "way with words" which you knew?

Methinks Lucy has some 'splainin' to do!

The 15 promises

(Given to St. Dominic and Blessed Alan de la Roche)

1 Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive powerful graces.
2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.
3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies
4. It will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God; it will withdraw the hearts of people from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish.
6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying Himself to the consideration of its Sacred Mysteries shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise Him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life.
7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the Sacraments of the Church.
8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and the plentitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the Saints in Paradise.
9. I  shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.
10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven.
11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary.
12. All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.
13. I  have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death
14. All who recite the Rosary are my children, and brothers and sisters of my only Son, Jesus Christ.
15. Devotion of my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.

"The Most Holy Virgin in these last times in which we live has given a new efficacy to the recitation of the Rosary to such an extent that there is no problem,

no matter how difficult it is, wheter temporal or above all spiritual, in the personal life of each one of us, of our families...that cannot be solved by the Rosary.

There is no problem, I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary."

Sister Lucia dos Santos
