If Adam had not participated in Eve’s sin, it gets convoluted, because most likely the child of sinless Adam and sinful Eve would be tainted with sin. The only sinless being would be Adam so maybe he would be the one to die for mankind? Dunno.

If Jesus came instead of Adam, you’d have Adam living forever and Jesus dying for mankind. Kind of a convoluted picture. From what I can tell, the redeemed of Christ would actually be better off in Heaven than sinless Adam who would seem to be stuck on earth. Probably makes more sense that Adam would die for mankind I guess.

But I think being redeemed and part of Christ Himself would still have been better than being redeemed by Adam. Doesn’t matter - just interesting conjecture.
