Theologian: Shared Communion With Protestants Would be Blasphemy and Sacrilege
National Catholic Register ^ | January 2, 2017 | Edward Pentin

Posted on 01/02/2017 4:25:11 AM PST by BlessedBeGod

...If the Church were to change its rules on shared Eucharistic Communion it would “go against Revelation and the Magisterium”, leading Christians to “commit blasphemy and sacrilege,” an Italian theologian has warned.

Drawing on the Church’s teaching based on Sacred Scripture and Tradition, Msgr. Nicola Bux, a former consulter to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, stressed that non-Catholic Christians must have undertaken baptism and confirmation in the Catholic Church, and repented of grave sin through sacramental confession, in order to be able to receive Jesus in the Eucharist.

Msgr. Bux was responding to the Register about concerns that elements of the current pontificate might be sympathetic of a form of “open Communion” proposed by the German Protestant theologian, Jürgen Moltmann.

The concerns have arisen primarily due to the Holy Father’s own comments on Holy Communion and Lutherans, his apparent support for some remarried divorcees to receive Holy Communion, and how others have used his frequently repeated maxim about the Eucharist: that it is “not a prize for the perfect, but a powerful medicine and nourishment for the weak.”

The debate specifically over intercommunion with Christian denominations follows recent remarks by Cardinal Walter Kasper who, in a Dec. 10 interview with Avvenire, said he hopes Pope Francis’ next declaration will open the way for intercommunion with other denominations “in special cases.”

The German theologian said shared Eucharistic communion is just a matter of time, and that the Pope’s recent participation in the Reformation commemoration in Lund has given “a new thrust” to the “ecumenical process.”

Pope Francis has often expressed his admiration for Cardinal Kasper’s theology whose thinking has significantly influenced…the priorities of this pontificate, particularly on the Eucharist.

For Moltmann, Holy Communion is “the Lord's supper, not something organized by a church or a denomination”...

Which one? There was only one wife explicitly mentioned -- in the italicised portion of comment that you highlighted.

Recompense to those in this world who have been sinned against -- yes. If at all possible.

Penance? Forgiven convicts are not usually given prison (penitentiary) sentences. Not if the sentence is abrogated.

The wages of sin are death. There is no going back, there is no "doing penance" sufficient, or even necessary. Christ's work is sufficient. Our own payment plan (or else due wages we would receive, more to the actual point) would have to include our own actual death, as actual as was Christ's own death upon the cross.

The word is repentance, not penance, and/or the phrase "do penance" except for in Latin translations of NT Scripture.

If your wife had the power claimed by Cath priests, she could says some words over that stew and it would no longer exist, but it would still tastes like it. And it would still gain you weight, and otherwise effect you as real stew,

Amazing isn't it? I am glad she doesn't have that power. She might abuse it. She didn't even know what beef stew was. In fact, she didn't know about most of the American food I like. I had to get used to a few things too, like kinilaw, longaniza, balut, dinuguan, durian, rambutan, lechon manok/baboy, tocino. There are others too, but that should keep you busy for awhile. 😊

Jesus did NOT specifically 'breath the power to forgive.' Go back and read John 20. He breathed the Holy Spirit on them. During Jesus' earthly ministry, the Holy Spirit was not disbursed to all believers in the same way. But after Jesus left, every believer recieves the Holy Spirit, and Paul even says if you don't get the Holy Spirit, you don't belong to Christ. So while this special infusion of the Holy Spirit may have been limited to the apostles at the beginning, it's now the norm for everyone who belongs to the body of Christ.

Pure nonsense. You seem keen on diminishing the priesthood.

[1] And when the days of the Pentecost were accomplished, they were all together in one place: [2] And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a mighty wind coming, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. [3] And there appeared to them parted tongues as it were of fire, and it sat upon every one of them: [4] And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they began to speak with divers tongues, according as the Holy Ghost gave them to speak. [5] Now there were dwelling at Jerusalem, Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

[6] And when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded in mind, because that every man heard them speak in his own tongue. [7] And they were all amazed, and wondered, saying: Behold, are not all these, that speak, Galileans? [8] And how have we heard, every man our own tongue wherein we were born? [9] Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea, and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, [10] Phrygia, and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome,

[11] Jews also, and proselytes, Cretes, and Arabians: we have heard them speak in our own tongues the wonderful works of God. [12] And they were all astonished, and wondered, saying one to another: What meaneth this? [13] But others mocking, said: These men are full of new wine. [14] But Peter standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spoke to them: Ye men of Judea, and all you that dwell in Jerusalem, be this known to you, and with your ears receive my words. [15] For these are not drunk, as you suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day: Acts 2

Once again, God gave specific gifts to His apostles and no one else.

Pax

The treasury of merit -- if the only deposits on hand were those of Christ alone, would still be inexhaustible, wouldn't they?

There you go again, talking about guys who are long centuries dead. And no one else, as you keep repeating.

Any and all successors, and alleged to be successors were and are NOT the same apostles you are referring to.

Those individuals (upon whom He [Christ] directly bestowed this 'authority', who you keep returning to make assertions about) are no longer with us.

Not nearly quite so keen as in comparison, your own diminishing of the ability of the Holy Spirit to work throughout the entire "priesthood of the Church" which membership is composed of each and every single person who has been baptized with the Holy Spirit.

Careful, careful man, lest you continue on this path and end up blaspheming the Holy Ghost.

You want a medal?

No, I got plenty of medals in my USAF career. I wasn't in sunny California in the 70s. I was in long tall Texas.

You owe acapesket an apology for your rude and disrespectful retort.

Thsi is a public forum on which anyone who wants may participate.

You do NOT control the discussion, the forum, or FR and you have no excuse for treating others in such an obnoxious way.

Adults don’t act like that.

Grow up.

HA! Then you question and mock our unity in the next breath.

Will y’all make up your collective minds about what you are going to condemn us for?

It seems to be cyclical, moon phases or something, like the weird love/hate for Martin Luther, round and round it goes.

The Messiah gave his Apostles the power to forgive or retain sins. The represent Him.

No they don't because Jesus or God NEVER retained anyone's sins.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

They simply represent Catholicism.

Two problems the Pharisee had.

He wasn’t praying to God.

He didn’t ask for forgiveness.

Your attempt to prove your point crashed and burned.

That’s not what I was taught.

It was to the priest and began *Forgive me Father, for I have sinned.*

It wasn’t confessing to God.

Do you think God got over it?

Prove to Mark that God cares where we go to church.

How will you know if He absolves you or if He retains your sins?

Rome has published a book...

And perhaps God does give a degree of ability to forgive sins to believers. ALL believers.

Suppose SR wronged me by, say, lying to me.

If he comes to me and confesses it and I forgive him, then maybe God looks at it as forgiven, as if it never happened and then HE doesn’t have to deal with it, nor does God even consider it to have happened.

OTOH, if I refuse to forgive SR, then he still has the option of Going to God for forgiveness, which he will get regardless of me being wrong in not forgiving him.

God is big on forgiveness, you know.

He really WANTS to save us and not so quickly condemn us as the Catholic church teaches.

I wasn’t even addressing you.

You're in a public forum, ranting and raving all over the place; and you're upset because someone talks BACK to you?

HMMMmmm...

Confession serves a larger purpose than judicial forgiveness. It’s about reconciliation, the body of Christ diving headlong into the love of Christ and experiencing a bit of heaven on Earth.

Thank you for so clearly stating what I have been trying to express.

That's a keeper.
