Priest Protests Catholic Flyer on Sin, Democrats
San Diego Tribune ^ | 11/5/16 | Pauline Repard

A Catholic priest and handful of picketers gathered outside an Old Town Catholic church Saturday to protest church messages linking presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to Satan and warning that voting Democrat is a mortal sin.

Father Dermot Rodgers of St. Peter of Rome Roman Catholic Mission in Allied Gardens wore a priest’s robe and held a hand-lettered sign saying, “Separation of Church and State.”

He and four like-minded men and women, including two of his parishoners, stood in front of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on San Diego Avenue amid church-goers and puzzled tourists.

They sparked spirited sidewalk debate on whether a flyer inserted in a bulletin at the church last month should have taken a political position that “It is a mortal sin to vote Democrat” and anyone who died in that state would immediately “descend into hell.”

An article in a later church bulletin claimed Clinton is influenced by Satan.

An Escondido woman, who declined to give her name, said she came out of confession, saw the picketers, and disagrees with their views.

Our local priest had the good sense to make his similar message non-political, non-partisan, and not to name any candidate, but rather to refer to the moral obligations of Catholics and the Church’s positions on abortion, euthanasia, and other critical issues.

He noted that “social justice” issues do need to be dealt with but means to achieve solution(s) are debatable. Abortion and euthanasia are not.

Separation of church and state, that doesn’t mean the state and those within can’t be evil and preach against it.

I can’t believe this priest and those like him are so blind to these things.

A priest is only to wear his chasuble to celebrate Mass or other Sacraments as needed.

Think there is a priest shortage now? Wait until the persecution comes and all the true catholic priests are driven underground. This is what Pope Benedict meant when he said the future church will be smaller but more vibrant.

I can believe it. This priest and his church are in the apostate, Robert McElroy's, Archdiocese of San Diego.

The name of this priest’s church made me a bit suspicious. I I can’t find any evidence that they are part of the Diocese of San Diego.

The pro-abortion “priest” is an ex-Catholic. A commenter provided this information.

My family left Mass last week at the end (but before the procession) when our pastor asked everyone to sit for a presentation by a rep from those homes that take in young single & expectant mothers. I wasn’t going to sit for his version of a “pro-life” talk from a third party while he skirted the issue altogether.

The Catholic Church’s hierarchy in the US has much to answer for; their pockets of followers are hotbeds of Democrat pro-abortion support.

I see more of an effort to take the Church back and rebuild.
