In Jordan's legislative elections, Islamic voters refused to support Christian candidates, reports Archbishop Maroun Lahham, the patriarchal vicar for the Jerusalem patriarchate.
Under Jordan's complicated election rules, every party must submit a slate of candidates that includes representatives of various minorities, including Christians. The Islamic parties duly recruited Christian candidates. But the party's supporters did not vote for those candidates, so that none of the Islamic party's winning representatives is a Christian.
The Islamic Action Front won 15 of the 130 seats in parliament. Christians won 9 seats.
Elections, Archbishop Lahham: all Christian candidates in Islamist lists rejected (Fides)
So much for those mythical “moderate Jordanian Muslims” our politicians try to sell us.
To the surprise of no one. Many Muslims may have been afraid to show or even discuss any Christian support in the first place.
However, I do seem to recall King Abdullah of Jordan suiting up to fight ISIS just one year ago. He said he wished to wage WW3 in a generational fight to overcome ‘these outlaws of Islam’. So, he has the right attitude. Natuarally, Obama failed to assist Jordan with any urgently needed weaponry.
Their King, trying to hold the islamists at bay, with a so-called palestinian wife, and kids who look like Jews.
“Rots ‘o ruck.”
