If, as a catholic you believe this, why does catholicism teach purgatory and indulgences?

Our sins are either forgiven or not....right?

I'll leave discussions on purgatory and indulgences to the theologians out there.

You mistakenly quoted John 3:18, when I was talking about 1 John 3:18: Let us love not in word or speech, but in truth and action. IOW, deeds not words. It adds to my life philosophy, embodied in a few words: it's never enough.

Whether it's your job, your marriage, your children, your relationship with God, etc., it's never enough. All you can do is your best every day.

I don't know if that message sunk in with those sixth graders, but they sat quietly for several minutes while I delivered it...a minor miracle in itself. lol, perhaps God was telling me to continue in that role.
