Dude...that’s good stuff!
Nothing in the Bible identifies anyone, except Jesus, as a son or daughter of Joseph -- to say nothing of identifying them as a son or daughter of Mary. You're injecting a manmade tradition -- one that all of the "Reformers" rejected, BTW.
It's a sin in Judaism to exempt someone else from obeying mitzvot. One of the chief mitzvot is "Honor thy father and thy mother". For Jesus, on the cross, to give Mary to John (not a blood relative), means either that his alleged younger siblings were all dead, or that practically Jesus' last act in his life was to commit a sin.
BTW we know that at least some of the "brothers of Jesus" did not die before Jesus, because they're mentioned in Acts and elsewhere. We also know the parentage of some of the so-called "brothers of Jesus". It's in the Bible! James and Joses were the "sons of Alphaeus". Jude Thaddeus ("Judas, not the Iscariot") was the son of James, the grandson of Alphaeus. Look it up!
The RCC has the final interpretation of all scripture regardless of the actual words that are written and don't you forget it.../ S
But in context of the passage it clearly means virgin. Also, the 70 Jewish scholars who translated the Hebrew OT into Greek to create the Septuagint specifically chose the Greek word for virgin.
In the new Norwegian translation, they called Mary a young woman not a virgin. Idiots.
We don't know because the bible is silent on the matter.
Did you get your line of reasoning from Tim Staples?
I've found people who take this approach are ones who've not bothered to try and study the language.
IIRC even Msgr Pope noted he needed to study the Greek to really know the NT. Salvation posted that article a while back.
Do catholic priests not study Greek and/or Hebrew? Or do they just study Latin so they can do the Mass?
I firmly believe that Mary, according to the words of the gospel as a pure Virgin brought forth for us the son of God and in childbirth and after childbirth forever remained a pure, intact Virgin.. (Ulrich Zwingli Opera, Corpus Reformatorum, Berlin, 1905, in Evang. Luc., Op. comp., V6,1 P. 639
I'll stand with those guys on this point.
Most frightening is the change to the iconic Isaiah passage (7:14): The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son.....
< shrug>. Not the big deal this author seems to think it is.
Many changes have been made to the Bible over the centuries. The last chapters of Mark wre added later, for example.
It's not the large scale mix-mastering that some seem to believe. In the NT there are only 3 of any significance. The "woman caught in adultery", the few extra verses at the end of Mark, and the "comma johannium".
Do you mean people who actually take the State Department Language Proficieny tests or people who imagine themselves scholars but are not recognized as such by any competent authority ?
Did you get your line of reasoning from Tim Staples ?
Regarding languages ? No. I find people who take this approach want to appropriate an image of authority to convince others, and themselves, of some particular interpretation by appealing to original languages in which they are not authorities.
An argument from authority (Latin: argumentum ad verecundiam), also called an appeal to authority, is a common type of argument which can be fallacious, such as when an authority is cited on a topic outside their area of expertise or when the authority cited is not a true expert.
Regarding the argument regarding brothers ? Read the link. It is in English.

LOL

There is nothing wrong with studying Greek; posing as a Greek scholar to try to contradict two thousand years of Greek language tradition ? Well, no, that is not a wise use of talent.
Do catholic priests not study Greek and/or Hebrew? Or do they just study Latin so they can do the Mass?
Catholic priests represent perhaps every major language under heaven. I have no idea how many study Greek and Hebrew. If you work in Israel you study Hebrew. It's what you do. If one's talent is in languages, one might naturally study languages to use the talents that are on loan from God, so to speak.
You do that. The context of the NT indicates otherwise.
It’s not an attack on his character. It’s an evaluation of his apologetics. They are weak. Very weak.
In this case, the outcome is obvious. The scripture clearly, unequivocally says he had brothers AND sisters. There is no question.
Looks like Paul disagrees with you and your opinion.
You remember Paul don't you?
I’ve learned in studying Roman Catholicism they redefine a lot of words to fit their theology.
Eggs Ackley! And if one is familiar with the Historical perspective on Judaism, a young girl was assumed to be a virgin, without having to specify! The term ‘maiden’ was applied and meant ‘virginal female’ ... when the King James translator did their work they knew the historical perspective and applied it.
Eight accounts of the family and they’re dismissed due to Catholic “tradition”. Amazing.
