Alexandria, La., Sep 21, 2016 / 11:46 am (CNA/EWTN News).- The Vatican announced Wednesday that Pope Francis has appointed Bishop David Prescott Talley, currently auxiliary bishop of Atlanta and a former Baptist, to serve as the coadjutor bishop of the Diocese of Alexandria.

As coadjutor, Bishop Talley possesses the right of succession as head of the Diocese of Alexandria upon the resignation of its current ordinary, Bishop Ronald Herzog. Bishop Herzog will celebrate his 75th birthday – 'mandatory retirement' age for bishops – on April 22, 2017.

Archbishop Wilton Gregory of Atlanta said Sept. 21 that Bishop Talley “is a servant minister of our Church, who is graced with extraordinary wisdom, patience, kindness and dedication.”

The bishop, he said, “developed these gifts as a priest and bishop here in the Archdiocese of Atlanta, where he always cared for our people as a true minister of mercy and kindness. Thus, he now begins this new appointment with exceptional credentials.”

Serving as an auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Atlanta since 2012, Bishop Talley, 66, was the first native-born Georgian to serve the Archdiocese of Atlanta as a bishop.

Born in Columbus, Georgia, Sept. 11, 1950, he was raised as a Southern Baptist, but left that ecclesial community as a teenager over the issue of racial segregation, he said. He then joined the Catholic Church when he was 24, after meeting Catholics and reading the writings of Thomas Merton while he was studying at Auburn University.

He was ordained a priest of the Atlanta archdiocese June 3, 1989, and earned a doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University. He has served as pastor at three Atlanta area parishes, as the archdiocesan vocations director, as chancellor of the archdiocese, and as judicial vicar of the metropolitan tribunal. He was made a........

He has been a priest for almost 30 years and a Roman Catholic for over 40. When does he stop being “a former Southern Baptist”?

When? ... when he gets born from above. He will cease to be a Catholic then, also, if it ever happens. Not likely at this late stage in his striving ... according to the catholiciism apologists at FR, a Catholic is always striving to eventually obtain salvation, after ‘all that they can do’ to become worthy of same. The Mormons are on a similar spiral ...

Protestants CAN marry-divorce-remarry ad infinitum. That's not bashing, that's just the facts, ma'am. Henry VIII DID have six wives and he was excommunicated from the Catholic Church for it. That is why England, as a nation, were to have their "Church of England." Henry VIII went through six wives.
How is that "baiting" Christians, since I am a Christian too?

Wasn't Taylor a Catholic?
I "Googled" Elizabeth Taylor's religion. Below is what I got. It said that SHE had SEVEN husbands. No Catholic does that.

Elizabeth Taylor: Taylor was born into a Christian Scientist family. Her godfather, English statesman Victor Cazalet, was a Christian Science preacher but it doesn’t seem to be something she spoke about very much.

Her first husband (of seven), Nicky Hilton, was a devout Catholic and tried to convert her to his faith–but it didn’t work out–the marriage or the conversion.

The big news regarding Taylor’s religion came when she announced she had converted to Judaism. The announcement came after the death of her third husband, Michael Todd (a Jew), and before her marriage to her fourth husband, Eddie Fisher (also a Jew). However, Taylor insisted that it had nothing to do with the religion of her respective husbands. She said of her conversion:
"It had absolutely nothing to do with my past marriage to Mike [Todd] or my upcoming marriage to Eddie Fisher, both of whom were Jewish. It was something I had wanted to do for a long time."

Taylor remained a Jew for the rest of her life, though she wasn’t the type to go to synagogue regularly. She did speak of her adherence to regular prayer: I pray to God all the time. We have a conversational relationship and those conversations calm my fears. And she supported numerous Jewish and pro-Israel charities throughout her life from buying large amounts of Israeli bonds to lobbying for countries like Russia to allow their Jewish populations to emigrate to Israel to raising money for the Jewish National Fund.

So, Liz was a Christian science by upbringing and a Jew by choice. I guess that means that she was not Catholic.

Of course, we all try to stay on the straight and narrow, and lead spirit filled lives. I just don't think keeping the 10 commandments, will keep anyone out of Hell. 🔥 God requires 100% perfection. Since I don't know anyone who is 100% perfect, we will have to do it some other way. I realized that on that mountain top, at Bogus Basin ski resort, Boise, Idaho. Look, people can believe whatever they want to, but, as Hi Tech says, ultimately, God knows who belongs to Him. 😇🙏

=============================

God REQUIRES "perfection"?? Lol. That's a good one.
NO ONE is perfect EXCEPT God. We are to TRY to be so.
Who taught you that God REQUIRES 100% perfection? I never heard such nonsense in my life.

Let me try to explain this nonsense to you one more time. You just made my whole point. None of us are perfect. I am an ex Catholic. I know I was taught to lead a good enough life to go to Heaven. I know I was taught that I was in a works based religion. If you are going to trust in your good works, or trust in your sincerity, you better be totally perfect, and never make a mistake.
I know I am not perfect. I don't trust my eternal soul to my good works to get me to Heaven, like works based religions do. I trust the fact that I am born from above.
I don't care anything about baptism, communion, church membership. I only care about their plan of salvation. How do they plan to get into Heaven?
You don't need to feel sorry for those of us who got out of the RCC. I am doing fine. I hope to see you in Heaven. I intend to be there.

To enter heaven, yes, God DOES require perfection.

Laugh in mockery and derision, if you will.

But you mock Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit who inspired Scripture.

Matthew 5:48 You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

You SURE you really want to go there?

Who taught you that God REQUIRES 100% perfection?

Um..... Jesus?

I never heard such nonsense in my life.

Well, if you read Scripture, you would have but I can't say as I am surprised.

I forgot to mention, if I was ever tempted to swim the Tiber, which I would never do, there is a famous guy waiting in the wings, with a big shovel, to beat me severely about the head and shoulders, just to get my attention, and stop me from doing it. He just wants to keep me out of Hell. 🔥 I just can't remember his name. 😆😄😇

We are perfected in Christ so you're all correct.

In THIS life we can none of us be perfect, but Christ's blood washes us clean and perfects us at the point of death .. when we are released from this corruptible and put on incorruptible.

You are 100% correct sir. God requires perfection to go to Heaven. I appropriate the perfection and righteousness of Jesus Christ. When God looks at me, He doesn't see my lack of perfection. He sees the perfection and righteousness of Jesus Christ.
This is not a difficult concept to grasp. My son understood it perfectly at 5 years of age. If others can't see it, that's on them.

Did anyone see the Art Linkletter clip where the kid says, “I’m a Catholic Baptist”?

Yes, you certainly are proud of your org gathering in the lost and confused to join catholiciism’s confused religion. Impressive list you keep handy ...

Protestants CAN marry-divorce-remarry ad infinitum

Catholics can be married for decades, have 7, 8 children and if, lets say the husband, wants a different wife, he can get the marriage annulled.

And marry his new flame.

Of course he will have to pay.

Unless, of course, he is powerful connected Catholic like Edward Kennedy.

Then strings can be pulled.

What a disgrace for a church to take part in such a degrading thing to a faithful wife and a brood of children.

You may be a Christian, but that scenario is NOT Biblical or Christian in any way shape or form.

It's an abomination.

Well good you researched and cleared Elizabeth Taylor of being associated with Catholicism.

The Catholic church has no Biblical right to declare a long child producing marriage to have never existed.

Doesn't that make bastards of the children?

**Doesn’t that make bastards of the children?**

No, an annulment is about the validity of the marriage, not the children.

We are perfected in Christ so you're all correct. In THIS life we can none of us be perfect, but Christ's blood washes us clean and perfects us at the point of death .. when we are released from this corruptible and put on incorruptible.

Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: (Philippians 3:8,9)
