What's with the "BCE" $hit? I thought that was kinda' phased out a few years ago.
BCE...coming from Christianity Today!
Disgraceful
Every year the archaeologists and the public are finding out that the Bible may not be one big ass myth.
You mean the Bible is historically true? Great news! /s
Right now they’re picking on the use of the politically correct BCE term. If they don’t use it the secularist scientists won’t read it.
I choose to not be offended by this. Bottom line is the “Common” Era, meaning the chronology of time recognized by global human civilization, pivots on the birth of a Jewish baby in an obscure hill town in an even more obscure province of the Roman Empire. So call it BC, BCE, or whatever, the fulcrum upon which humankind’s time on this planet shifted remains the same.
BCE: Before the Christian Era.
Depends on how you read it.
BCE: Before Common Era
BC: Before Christ
For centuries, if not longer, BC was widely accepted. I find a big difference. One is an attack on Christianity and a sterile, ridiculous secular tag.
So is CE, common era, instead of AD, a stupid attempt to sanitize the Christian part of our culture.
Well, you and I know exactly what it means. I won't buy dumping Christianity parts of our culture for these stupid secular attempts to eliminate all that is Christian.
So were there any young Gezers in the city, or were they all old?
Agreed. :)
And I’m tired of every single thread on this kind of topic devolving into this same BC/BCE argument, and completely eclipsing discussion of the topic, which is often something significant and cool like it is here.
re: According to the Bible, King Solomon was the driving force behind the creation of Israel.
This is bigger news than discovering the temple.
Most Bible readers think God/Yaweh was the driving force behind the creation of Israel.
Those who would name a mortal would say a series of 3 people were the driving force: Samuel, Saul, David. By the time Solomon came to power, Israel was already at its peak, thanks to his father David.
In fact, most Bible scholars attribute to Solomon the destruction of Israel. Solomon heavily taxed the 10 Northern tribes to employ those of the 2 southern tribes to supervise the building of the temple by non-jewish laborers.
The 10 tribes seceded from Judah over the unfair taxation. In fact, the 10 tribe were the original tea party.
I wish they had shown more pictures of the palace dig. The aerial view doesn’t give a feel for the scale of the site.
Excellent point. Thank you.

The link is to “Christian Today” , not “Christianity Today”. Not that “Christianity Today” is much better.
The upending of certain historians, and I hesitate to use the title, who insist that the Bible is myth is always a joy. Archaeologists who have no problem identifying some gold draped corpse buried in an English field as Saxon King so and so, or a Danish Earl mentioned in the Chronicle, bridle at the idea Jacob, Moses, Joshua, David, Solomon, or even Jesus (who is mentioned by the Judeo-Roman historian Josephus) were living and breathing people whose deeds were recorded. The Bible reads like history because it is history.
A.D. means Anno Domini.....Year of the Lord!!! Take THAT LEFTIES!
Disappointing that a site calling itself “Christian Today” uses the anti-Christian “BCE” instead of “B.C.”
