Here is an immediate exhibit of that secret pride, tempered slightly by the addition of 'help us attain': "Salvation presents the article for discussion and to help all of us attain salvation with God." The secret pride is inferring that attaining must come through the Catholic Institution, as the poster counts self as 'in the right church/institution'. But make no mistake, Baptists and Methodists and Presbyterians and Mormons, etc. make the same secret pride mistake.

JESUS is building HIS body of believers, the real one true church, the Ekklesia He will call out / snatch from the scene before He lowers the boom.

Hasn’t Zoroastrianism been around longer than either Christianity or Islam?

In your case, a shotglass of cold water ought to be sufficient.

PURE Roman Catholic FICTION. Try reading the first three Chapters of The Revelation of John.

Both you and the Church and Staples cannot be right. If I have to choose, I choose a studied convert and an infallible Church along with my own study. Most of us are not perfect at death and nothing unclean enters heaven. Thus purgatorial cleansing.

And here is your so called purgatorial cleansing:

2Co 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

1Co 3:12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
1Co 3:13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
1Co 3:14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.
1Co 3:15 If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

None of us are perfect at death...

We will appear before the judgment seat of Jesus immediately when we die...The record of all of our works will be thrown into a fire...When the fire dies down Jesus pulls out the works that survived the fire...Only the record of the good works survived, the bad works are turned to ashes...

All those things we thought were good and were burned will become a loss, waste of time...AND, they can hinder us from receiving rewards in heaven...And since all the bad works were consumed in the fire, the fire saved us...NOW we can go into God's presence...This judgment is immediate upon death...There is no purgatory...There is no punishment...Jesus abolished the penalty of sin when he died...

Your 'learned experts' tell you that YOU are going to burn in purgatory, feel the flames as punishment for your sins...And they use this scripture to falsely convince you of that...All you have to do is read it for yourself to understand it...

2Co 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ...

This statement was issued by an apostle of Jesus Christ to Corinthian believers in Jesus Christ as The Lord God, not to non-believers, non-followers.

Correct me if wrong.

Are you sure? I think you are in denial. Here is one reference. There are others. Can you obtain the Eucharist - the Real Presence of Jesus anywhere but the Catholic Church?

“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you; he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him” (John 6:53–56).

Think how ridiculous that is...NOT what Jesus said but how it is interpreted by the Catholic religion...

Your popes even claim a person doesn't have to believe in Jesus to go to heaven...That in itself is a horrendous teaching...

Suppose a drunk walks into a Catholic Mass thinking he walked into a Salvation Army soup line and and partakes in the Eucharist...He stumbles out of your Church into the path of a car and dies on the spot...

According to your interpretation of your proof text, he ends up in heaven...

Twice before I was a Christian I was in a Catholic church and partook of your Eucharist...Thank God I didn't die before I became a born again Christian...

Amen, FRiend! Amen! People woefully overestimate themselves and simultaneously woefully underestimate Christ’s goodness and power to save.

I’ve heard a wise old Tennessee Baptist preacher say many times that one of the rarest commodities on earth is a sinner. He said most people will admit they have committed some sins but most don’t think of themselves as all that bad, which is why they will end up in Hell. They end up there because they don’t understand their utter spiritual poverty and need. He says that when you find a genuine bonafide sinner, a man who understands his spiritual poverty and helplessness, you’ve found a man who is on his way to salvation. A man like that will throw Himself at the feet of Christ and look to Him to do what he knows he can’t within himself.

And yes, I’ve run into our Roodian. Ugh!

God gave you that rebellion. I have it, too. God put something in me that has rendered me incapable of merely accepting what I’m told. It has served me well throughout life in all sorts of ways, especially in spiritual matters.

Many have rejected the words of Jesus and still try to claim that they have faith in Jesus.

That must be difficult for you.

If when you say many you means hundreds of millions upon millions you would be correct...But we don't reject the words of Jesus...It is just your false interpretation that we reject...And yes, we have complete faith in Jesus because we are indwelt with the Holy Spirit who confirms with our spirit that this is the truth...

And THAT must confuse you as to why we are so adamant in our belief...

And Jesus of the scriptures tells us that...

Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Rom 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
Rom 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

Well, I wondered enough to ask.

Nothing (self-righteous) we do or build on earth apart from Christ will make it past His loving Judgment Seat prepared for His own beloved flock(s).

Our believing saving faith in Jesus Christ as Lord, in Christ alone, is the Only Way a human goes to Heaven and participates in eternal life with the Living God, Our Father!

In Christ Alone!

I should have suggested you read the Epistles and note that they are addressed to all of the saints, the body of all believers, and not to priests and bishops. God’s Word is to the people, for the people. You do not need Rome to teach you what the Bible means when it explicitly teaches (in multiple places) that Christ cleanses from ALL sin. That is plain.

However, you do need Rome to invent and manage Purgatory based on the idea that the Jesus of Rome (an altogether fictitious Jesus) doesn’t pay all of the sin debt. You need Rome to use Purgatory to manipulate and extort sinners for many centuries. Ever asked yourself why the pope, if he has the power claimed, doesn’t simply release all those souls in Purgatory? The whole thing is laughably absurd.

Any man or any institution who places himself or itself between you and God is utterly wicked. Tim Staples and the Bishops of Rome won’t be there to hold your hand and plead your case at the judgment. You will be judged according to what Christ has accomplished for you or you will offer up your own works. You either accept Him and His work alone by faith or you are on your own. There is no in between. There is no second chance. There is no Purgatory. The Bible says today is the day of salvation. What did Christ tell the thief on the cross? He didn’t say, after some purgation you will be in Paradise. He said “Today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

We live our lives one day at a time. Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow never comes. Today is the only day we have, to be saved by the grace of God. The Bible says, “Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power...” Are you willing to look to Him in faith and be saved this very day?

Or will you keep looking to the weak Jesus of Rome, the Jesus who must be sacrificed over and over again, the Jesus who can only do so much for you, the Jesus who saves so incompletely you must spend time in Purgatory?

To all Freepers taking issue with me on this thread. You should investigate the Roman Church.

All these different opinions fracture the body of Christ. We need a decider to whom we all listen.
