Mexican Bishop and His Clergy: We Will Go to Jail Rather than Bless Gay ‘Marriages’

June 25, 2015 (LifeSiteNews) – Following a declaration by the Mexican Supreme Court nullifying state laws prohibiting “marriage” to people of the same sex, Nuevo Laredo Bishop Gustavo Rodríguez Vega has issued his own declaration along with the clergy of his diocese, assuring the faithful that he will suffer imprisonment rather than cooperate with such unions.

“They can’t require an institution like this Church to go against its principles,” the archdiocesan clergy are quoted as saying in various local and national news reports. “Let the Supreme Court send the bishops and the priests to jail, whomever they want, but the Church cannot go against the law of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

“We know that we can go to jail, if some couple decides to marry civilly, but we won’t give it a blessing. This law cannot obligate the Church, the Church cannot go against its principles and in fact the only ones who will come to the Church will be those who share our principles,” they add.

The clergy of the diocese affirm that their position is “based on scientific, anthropological, social, and religious reasons” which prove that marriage is between “a man and a woman (...) as the juridical tradition of thousands of years of the West affirms, a tradition of two thousand years; it is the union of one man and one woman who wish to procreate.” They call the decision of the Supreme Court to create homosexual “marriage” a “parting of the waters, and the whole world is not going to be in agreement and the Church is not in agreement with this definition.”

The country’s Supreme Court issued a declaration on June 12 purporting to nullify state laws confining marriage to one man and one woman or tying the institution to procreation, claiming that such.....

Does Mexican law compel the clergy to perform marriages recognized as “legal” by the government? If not this decision is easy for churches to bypass. If not...God help Mexico!

Why can’t this part of Mexico cross the border into the US?

There are priests born in Mexico that are serving in parishes here in the US.

I met one a few weeks ago that just celebrated his first anniversary as an ordained priest.

Generally no, but remember that woman who refused to put her signature on the marriage certificate if they were homosexual? Didn’t she go to jail for a while?

I think she was a county clerk for a town in central USA.

State of mind does not create personhood. You CANNOT become some kind of new legal entity based upon some idea you’ve gotten into your head or some obsession that you have. To allow this is to create a tyranny of crazies aka CHAOS.

The Cristeros: Viva Christo Rey! A History

Freemasonry and their superiors hiding behind the curtain, along with their satanist toadies in the United States government and their Lodges are responsible for destroying Mexico and installing Bolshevism in its place.

U.S. Army air corps pilots flew air support of the Mexican Marxist governmental forces on the battlefield against the Catholic Cristeros.

The creation of ISIS by Israel and the U.S. is not the first act of destabilization or genocide against Christians by the United States acting as agent for hidden powers.

No, Mexico doesn't recognize religious weddings and every Mexican must have a civil wedding if s/he is to have a LEGAL marriage. Any judge can and does perform them. Priests do NOT perform them. They perform ONLY the religious ceremonies.
So, everyone does THAT first thing but it's a "bare minimum" ceremony. The middle class and wealthy have the HUGE religious weddings and they can be ostentatious. I went to the wedding of a son of a first cousin and there were 450 guests. Big stuff there.
At the "backyard" swimming pool reception they had daisies floating in the water because the bride's name was Margarita, which means "daisy" in Spanish.

Also, Mexico STILL doesn't allow priests and nuns to wear their collars and habits in public. I had a first cousin who was a priest in the "Misionarios del Espiritu Santo" order. He came to gringolandia to marry my husband and me.
No one I knew ever went to the civil ceremony as it's no big deal. The church/Mass wedding was the BIGGIE.

I lived in Mexico City for two years when I was in my mid-late twenties. I had a great time.

Yes, she was the Rowan county, Kentucky, elected official whose office issues marriage licenses. She did go to jail rather than issue a SS “marriage” license. Interestingly, she was a Democrat.

I was in eastern Kentucky this past week to attend a funeral. This was deep in the mountains in coal country and a heavily democrat stronghold. All of the people I spoke with, except one, will vote for Mr. Trump. Most of these folks have never before voted for a Republican. All of them are enduring economic loss and hardship because of the war against coal. Many small businesses and restaurants were closed and boarded up. It used to be common to see large coal trucks everywhere. I didn’t see a single one while there. Also, the nation of Ukraine purchased coal mines and is sending the coal back to the Ukraine to be used in steel manufacturing. The visible poverty has greatly increased. It was shocking to see the decline.
