Everybody gets a blue ribbon, and a cookie, instead?

HEY, I'll take a cookie ANY DAY, as long as it's chocolate chip cookies.

An age-old adage: there's NO substitute for excellence.

I'm no genius but I am smart enough to know how much smarter others are than I am.
So, I had to work HARDER to get where I am. The result? Life was SO much easier for me because I was USED to working and working hard for things I wanted. I got them because of that.

Now, I try to spend my time showing my gratitude to the good Lord for all His blessings.

It is a “not surprising” continuation of the “everyone gets a trophy” that started with grade school sports a couple of decades ago. You don’t have to be the winner of the race to get a trophy, just show up at the race and you are given one, even if you don’t actually run.

Those trophy are meaningless and those who get them KNOW it. If they really DON'T know it, then those who really love them will tell them so.

We are all equally loved by God but we weren't given equal talents or abilities. It's all in His plan.

I heard this last week: If you want God to laugh: tell Him your plans.

It’s really distressing that excellence is not only not rewarded, but mocked. I remember when it was a good thing to succeed in whatever your endeavor. Now it’s bad, bad, bad ... especially if what you’re good at results in your achieving wealth. Perish the thought!

Possibly more a reflection of the fact that the naming of a Valedictorian can be quite political in nature.
