Cardinal Kurt Koch, who leads ecumenical relations for the Vatican, made the comments at an interfaith meeting in Cambridge

Christians have a mission to convert all Muslims, according to one of Pope Francis’s senior aides.

Cardinal Kurt Koch, who leads ecumenical relations for the Vatican, made the comments at an interfaith meeting held by Cambridge University’s Woolf Institute.

Cardinal Koch also said that Christians should not try and convert Jews and should view Judaism as a “mother”.

“We have a mission to convert all non-Christian religions’ people [except] Judaism,” he said, before reportedly adding that this extended to jihadis responsible for persecuting Christians in the Middle East.

The cardinal also urged Christians to view Judaism as a “mother” and said Christainity and Judaism shared a special relationship.

Everyone needs Jesus. Everyone.

Saying the truth I prevent no one from doing whatever they want. You just do not want me to be able to say the truth.

Yes, It is always important to look at words and not to parse them. And I find it quite interesting that you did not post the preceding sentence in your Romans’ quote:

[26] And so all Israel should be saved, as it is written: There shall come out of Sion, he that shall deliver, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob. [27] And this is to them my covenant: when I shall take away their sins.

"Everyone needs Jesus."

Incorrect.

You are in no position and have no authority to determine "need" for anyone other than yourself.

Jews pray directly to God - using the very language He used to crerate the world. There is no "need" for the god of another religion: 'You shall have no other gods before me' etc.

"You just do not want me to be able to say the truth."

Incorrect again.

There is a world of difference between speaking what one believes to be the truth, proselytizing, and conversion attempts.

More from Romans 11:

“[6] And if by grace, it is not now by works: otherwise grace is no more grace. [7] What then? That which Israel sought, he hath not obtained: but the election hath obtained it; and the rest have been blinded. [8] As it is written: God hath given them the spirit of insensibility; eyes that they should not see; and ears that they should not hear, until this present day. [9] And David saith: Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumbling block, and a recompense unto them. [10] Let their eyes be darkened, that they may not see: and bow down their back always.”

You want us to *not *parse words??

Do you even know what the word "parse" means? It means to grammatically analyze a word, phrase or sentence, or to examine texts to uncover their implications or deeper meanings.

It would do the Free Republic forums a great deal of good if we all did a good deal more parsing. Parsing before posting would sure improve the overall comprehension levels. Now: I find it quite interesting that you did not post the preceding sentence (vv 25-26)in your Romans’ quote:

"I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery, brothers, so that you will not become wise in your own estimation: a hardening has come upon Israel in part, until the full number of the Gentiles comes in, and thus all Israel will be saved..."

Good night and God bless you.

You don’t even seem to understand what you post.

It’s only the Jews, as whole and living in the end times, who be will be saved when the full numbers of Gentiles comes in.

However, that should not preclude the Church from doing Her best for those Jews living today to call for their conversion. That would be a lack of “charity”, a term Francis is fond of abusing.

If you want to go on ahead and post all of Romans 11 that's fine with me.

Have a restful, peaceful night.

God wake you with the morning light.

Is that because you don’t believe in mediators?

??????

You don't seem to understand that I agree with what you just wrote.

You seem to want to disagree even when we agree! Sorry, that's a sport that doesn't suit me.

Jesus is also God.

He said no one comes to the Father except through Him.

To deny this is to deny Jesus is God. And to call Him a liar.

I didnt invent it. If you deny Jesus you reject His claims. The Jews rejected and continue to reject Him.

Nope. But Jesus didnt instruct us that we ask anyone to mediate for us, He clearly explained that we as sons of God can pray directly to God, and then He gave us His example and began the Our Father,....

I pray directly to God. As Jesus instructed and demonstrated.

He never ever told anyone ask my mom to pray for you because my grace comes back to you through her.

The Covenant with the Jews wasn’t “revoked”; it was FULFILLED when Christ suffered, died, and resurrected. The Catholic Church has ALWAYS taught that we are saved by the grace of Christ ALONE, not through faith alone and not by works alone. Jews need Jesus as much as anyone else does, and the idea that they have some sort of sacred DNA is racist. The Pope, who is NOT speaking ex-cathedra, or infallibly, here is w-r-o-n-g. Plain and simple wrong. Catholic are to spread the Gospel to ALL.

Tell it to the judge - Torquemada.

Sing to O Lord, All the Earth O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth. Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people. For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens. Honour and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary. Give unto the LORD, O ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength. Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come into his courts. O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth. Say among the heathen that the LORD reigneth: the world also shall be established that it shall not be moved: he shall judge the people righteously. Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth be glad; let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof. Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice Before the LORD: for he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth: he shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with his truth.

Many Muslims have been converted to Christianity. It’s happening today. And risky - since the penalty for leaving that faith is death.

Of course, one must believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and was crucified, and rose, or all is for naught. Every Catholic I know who venerates Mary, believes in and worships Jesus. Jesus is Lord; Mary’s just His mom. But in that alone, having been chosen to bear the Incarnation, makes her unique among mortal humans.

Unique, yes. Mediatrix (ie conduit or channel) of all Gods graces to everyone, no. Someone we have to have mediate for us because we cannot pray to God dirdctly and receive His forgiveness ans grace and mercy, no.

This was not a thread debating her uniqueness. Dont rephrase the issue into something else.

I thought the thread was about the mission of Catholics to convert Muslims to the True Faith. A mission now more important than ever.

Well Mary aint gonna do it. They have “liked” her more than Jesus for 1400 years and it hasnt done anything.

To wit the muslim threat to the world is the number one thret facing the world today.

Despite them liking Mary more than Jesus.

Good question.

Let’s look at Acts to see what indications we have of the process.

Do we think the Road to Damascus experience is the moment of Paul’s salvation? Probably not.

The experience is recorded 3 times in Acts.
Acts 9:3-8
Acts 22:6-11 and
Acts 26:13-19

We also see in Acts 13:9 where Paul was filled with the Spirit, which occurs after the believer has received a human spirit, which is used by the Holy Spirit as a temple for His indwelling and also affording the indwelling of the Shekinah indwelling of the Christ in each and every believer during the Church Age.

So we have it bracketed as to when Paul was saved, ...between the Road to Damascus encounter and Acts 13:9.

We can hone this down further by noting in Acts 9:15, where Ananias is told to find Saul of Tarsus by inquiring in the house of Judas for he had received a dream where a man named Ananias coming in and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight.

When Ananias questions this due to Saul’s reputation, the Lord says to Ananias as an explanation, that Saul is a chosen (elect) vessel UNTO (not by) Me (the Lord, Christ Jesus).

So we know Saul is elect at this time, but not necessarily called by the Father.

Acts 22:14 describes God the Father as having chosen him, that Saul should know His will and see that Just One, and hear the voice of His mouth.

Acts 22:16 testifies in the question, Why tarry? then commands to arise and be baptized and wash away sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

So it appears Saul had been chosen (elect) prior to salvation, and then commanded to arise, become baptized and call on the name of the Lord for salvation.

There are some other passages reflecting Paul’s later seeking the eyewitness of others to verify his personal impressions regarding salvation. I’ll need to search those out a bit. They were deducible from doctrine, but perhaps not obvious without some dedicated word studies.
