“I don’t see the ECFs or those councils appeal to the original languages that often.”

They used Greek, even for the OT (the Septuagint). Even the Jews used Greek then. I’ve been told that some of the Fathers used Aramaic but I’ve never been able to confirm that.

“Why pray to someone who can’t hear you? Why pray to someone, who, if she could hear you, CAN DO NOTHING for you?”

It’s astonishing to me how very, very different what passes for Christianity in parts of the West is from that which The Church has lived for 2000 years!

Agreed. It is a shame that Christianity has been perverted by those RCC and EO who would seek to add to the Scripture, to add to the what God requires for salvation, thus perverting the Gospel and becoming "another Gospel" -- a "gospel" that is to be ignored according to Scripture.

If you can't find it in the Bible, you don't need to do it to have salvation.

It's just that simple.

We have how many examples in the NT of people praying to the departed believers.

Well, we have... oh, wait. No.

But there IS.... uh. No.

What about when.... ahhhh.

Seriously, Hose, who told you that? There wasn’t even a Canon of the NT until after 300.

None that I am aware of, but by the time we had determined what was in and what was out of the NT, it had been going on for about 200 years...about as long as the veneration of relics had been going on.

The Bible speaks for itself, "scholar", and it doesn't need any help from you or the heretristics except to proclaim its contents faithfully.

The Bible says today what it said when it was written. There is no--repeat NO--word given in the Bible for "venerating" or worshipping any being but the Almighty God and His Equally Divine Son and Lamb, Jesus.

Clearly, your religionists' revisionist works created this attitude toward Mary out of the whole cloth. In marketing we used to call such terms "weasel words" -- persuasive words which the seller describes the product to be but doesn't clue you in as to what it really isn't. "Venerate" without bowing or kneeling in homage to something and not worship? Hah!

Take your Anglophone and call one of your phony friends on this.

Canon isn't the issue; SCRIPTURE has been in existence since the Holy Spirit lead those to write what he inspired in them. You know... Paul's Letters, Gospels, etc.

In answer to your query, however, Scripture tells us this (and since Scripture is the inspired, inerrant word of God, God is the one who "told" me):

2 Timothy 3:14-17
"[14] But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it [15] and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. [16] All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, [17] that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."

emphasis mine.

So.... it appears to me that this was in existence FAR before the EO or RCC came about. And God-breathed. So, if you have an issue with what's in the Bible, take it up with God -- he's the author. I can't help it if RCCs and EOs add thing required for salvation that God didn't require; I can't help it if those churches teach a false gospel and heresy.

None that I am aware of, but by the time we had determined what was in and what was out of the NT, it had been going on for about 200 years...about as long as the veneration of relics had been going on. The Word disagrees with you and catholicism.

4Thou shalt not make to thyself a graven thing, nor the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, nor of those things that are in the waters under the earth. 5Thou shalt not adore them, nor serve them: I am the Lord thy God, mighty, jealous, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me Exodus 20:4-5 Douay-Rheims

6Now these things happened as examples for us, so that we would not crave evil things as they also craved. 7Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written, “THE PEOPLE SAT DOWN TO EAT AND DRINK, AND STOOD UP TO PLAY.” 1 Corinthians 10:6-7

22Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. Romans 1:22-23

Elsie has a wide range of pictures with catholics kneeling before images of catholic mary.

There there, just go sit in the corner and pout, repeat to yourself; “The Catholics can’t be right, the Catholics can’t be right.

I am certain you will remember this when challenged on the beginnings of the Catholic Church. Oh wait that's right two sets of rules.
