[In Africa] Pope Francis Condemns Abortion: “Resist Practices That Threaten the Innocent Unborn”

Pope Francis encouraged Catholics in Africa to reject abortion and treat children as a blessing on Thursday in Kenya.

"We are also called to resist practices which foster arrogance in men, hurt or demean women, and threaten the life of the innocent unborn," the pontiff said during a Mass at the University of Nairobi, Kenya, according to the BBC.

He encouraged young people to stand up for the sanctity of every human life by shaping "a society which is ever more just, inclusive and respectful of human dignity." He added that they "should reject everything that leads to prejudice and discrimination."

Pope Francis told the crowd: "Our faith in God's word calls us to support families in their mission in society, to accept children as a blessing for our world, and to defend the dignity of each man and woman, for all of us are brothers and sisters in the one human family."

The pope's words came to a country that has been targeted by abortion advocates in recent years. Though its ambassador to the United Nations strongly denounced abortion earlier this year, Kenya has been pushed to expand abortion by the UN and the Obama Administration.

Pope Francis has been emphasizing the sanctity of human consistently during his visits across the world. When he came to the U.S. in September, the pope admonished members of Congress to "defend life at every stage of development."

"The Golden Rule also reminds us of our responsibility to protect and defend human life at every stage of its development," he told U.S. Congress. "I am convinced that this way is the best, since every life is sacred, every human person is endowed with an inalienable dignity."

Slammed the secularized, rich, bloated German hierarchy last week (HERE)

Praised the faith of the African Church this week (HERE)

Can't help admitting it's a good trend.

Will be ignored by the American media.

Consistently. When has Pope Francis done other than condemn abortion?

It’s in the article but I don’t remember the media repeating it.

IN point of fact, Ppe Francis did mention homosexuality. He has been exposing the homosexual lobby and "gender ideology" as insidious aspects of cultural imperialism being pushed on African nations by the UN, the U.S. State Department, and international "development" agencies.

He also celebrated a huge public Mass at the shrine of the Ugandan Martyrs, who were killed in the 19th century for refusing to participate in homosexuality on the orders of the sexually depraved King Mwanga II (LINK).

That the Pope not only "fails" to advocate for "gay rights" in Africa, but actually conducts highly publicized ceremonies to honor those who resisted sodomy tothe death, has the Western press falling strangely silent.

Good find. Thanks for posting it. Not surprised about the “Yeah, but....” comments. Some people are bound and determined to be negative, regardless.

At the end of the above article:

"Pope Francis has been emphasizing the sanctity of human consistently during his visits across the world.

Pope Francis addressed the right to life both to Congress and at the U.N. (LINK)

Didn't notice that? As Breitbart notes, Planned Parenthood did.

He will never be my favorite pope but when he earns our respect and obedience in the matter of protecting human life at every stage of development, his conservative critics should back off and treat him with the respect he has earned on that issue. When I say the rosary and get to the point of praying for the intentions of the pope, I add two qualifiers. First: especially if his intentions conflict with my own. Second and far more important: intentions that are consistent with the will of God. I never felt it necessary to add qualifiers in the time of JP I, Pope Saint JP II or Benedict XVI.

May God bless you and yours!

Bless you, Black Elk.

I suppose I was taught that as a child; or at least, I don't remember being taught it but I picked it up: that when I pray for "my intentions" or anyone else's, I add "if they are conformed to God's will."

That part you added which links up with that, "...especially if his intentions conflict with my own,"--- wow. It shows a humility I sure need to work harder at every day.

If I may ask, please pray for me and for a particular loved one I have in mind.

Thank you for your kind words.

I am pleased to have the opportunity to pray for you and your relative. AND I know you well enough here and from your history in OR that I know that no reservations are necessary as to your intentions.

My kidney failure is not critical and my test results are, as with my diabetes, well under control. Nonetheless, I need all the prayers I can get.

Without the prayers of fellow FReepers besieging heaven on my behalf a year ago during my three weeks plus of coma in critical condition, I would certainly have died. I have made my peace with God and with all who have "trespassed against me" and I am ready to go when God is ready to have me. I do not fear death. I only fear pain. I am recovering from multiple surgeries last Tuesday related to providing dialysis access to my arm and my abdomen. Please pray for my rapid recovery. Ask your fellow Rescuers to pray for a recovering pro-life attorney who did his part at no cost to anyone.

Finally, if the pope's intentions ARE conformed to the will of God and I disagree, I am disagreeing with God and cannot be correct. I think of it as realism.

May God bless you and yours, as ever!

What do you mean “finally”? His condemnations of abortion have been regular since the beginning of his pontificate.

the condemnations didn’t make it to the podium of the US Senate though, where it could have been very powerful.
