Wow. They say Americans are ignorant about foreign countries. I’ve never actually met one who thought the only government in the world is the U.S. Goverment!

You are the guy using ‘government’ as if the Vatican is a country in the normal sense. Don’t talk to me about being ‘ignorant.

the U.S. Government and hundreds of other governments have diplomatic relations with the Vatican City State. The Pope spoke to Congress as a head of state. But YOU “know” it’s not REALLY a state.

You took offense when I hinted at your anti-Catholic bigotry, but you weren’t able to suppress it for very long. It’s obviously volcanic.

BTW: When ARE you going to demand that the U.S. Government SELL the National Gallery of Art, and give the money to the poor?

Ultimately, the decision to “sin no more” is the sinner’s.
As we know, in practice, the people in the pews are required to attend confession with humble and contrite heart, and to be in a state of grace—IOW, no longer engaging in sin—in order to receive the Eucharist.

That’s why some people remain seated during Communion.
As for the gay couple, perhaps they do remain seated during Communion, in honest acknowledgement that the Holy Spirit isn’t quite done with them yet.
Or perhaps they do live chaste lives, in accordance with Church teachings. All homosexuals aren’t active. Some live celibate lives.
I don’t know. I’ll admit I haven’t read any of the stories about this gay “couple.” Perhaps I should, but I doubt that doing so would provide any additional insight.
When I stand in that line—or not—I try to focus on my own relationship with Christ, rather than speculating on whether others have the “right” to be in the pews or in the line.

I do, however, agree with those who say the Church needs to with hold Communion from those high-profile ‘Catholics’ who knowingly flaunt and disregard its teachings, and especially those who actively condone or advocate others to engage in mortal sin.
And I agree that Francis should issue clear directives to bishops and priests to deny Communion in these egregious cases.
If the Church is to be “political” IMO, it should be actively shaming and even excommunicating the Nancy Pelosi’s of the world. Otherwise the Real Presence of Christ is utterly meaningless.

Sorry for the rant!
Peace be with you. :-)

Thank you for that admission that you have nothing to say.

Looks like infallible, not so much.

Nothing that this Pope has said is infallible...

I’ve been to the Vatican museum. For a nominal fee you can see the works of Raphael and Michelangelo, and lots of other famous artworks. The tour ends in the Sistine. You find yourself suddenly standing under Michelangelo’s frescoes. I can’t imagine them being sold to private parties and these beautiful works being removed from the public domain. It’s just selfish to even think it. It’s phony charity.

What government? How many people not working for the RCC live in the country of “Vatican”? At what point did American govt or any other start saving souls? You might want to rethink this one.

Vatican City is a nation unto itself. Arthur is 100% correct in his statements on the Vatican treasures...they are held for all the world to enjoy and experience. The Catholics gives more money to help the poor, ailing, uneducated, unhoused and clothed, than anyone else in the world including most governments. The fact that they are in possession of earthly treasures has nothing to do with their mission to save souls, they have been doing that very well for 2,015 years and will continue to do so until the end of time....Christ said so.

Except that most are in vaults and have not been seen in decades or centuries, thus enjoyed by no one and that ‘nation’ is in name only.

Stupid argument. Always has been. Period. Tell me: when all that art is sold and the money goes towards the poor, then what? Do the poor just disappear?

If they haven't been in centuries, how do you know that they have them, maybe they sold them and gave the money to the poor in the 14th century...........and the U.S. and the U.N. recognize the Vatican as a separate entity....close enough for me...

The Church leads/sets the bar to what God desires. Its up to the “world” to conform not the other way around. I hope this is a mistranslation, if not this Pope is an apostate.

Don’t really care to be honest. But as long as some communist sits on top of it while telling everyone else on the planet to ‘give’ I think it’s pretty stupid to defend it.

What has ‘always’ been stupid is to sit making up one defense after another for people that could use their power and influence...and wealth...to do what the bible actually tells them to do and somehow ‘poverty’ becomes the latest international edition of “Hoarders”.

Of course he is now using it to help gays while christians are murdered outright, crucified and all the atrocities in the M.E., Uses it to enforce the leftist agenda here at home and throughout Europe and demand open borders for all.

Don’t tell me he isn’t because his actions clearly and irrefutably show he is. Don’t tell me his personal stash is ‘everyones’ because the Vatican Archives have been off limits without a Pope’s OK for centuries.

In fact, you show me what actual positive effect this guy has had since the smoke rose. One. Just one. You tell me why this guy wants everyone else to pay up while he does nothing with that cash but close churches, spread leftism and crap over the very Bible he is supposed to be the greatest champion of. And why each and every action he has taken flies in the face of everything Jesus ever preached.

Actually, I am not defending Francis. I am pointing out the “the Catholic Church should sell all its art and provide for the poor” argument is a stupid, short sighted argument and people who say it should just stop. Especially when they “really don’t care” what happens to the poor when the Church hypothetically sells all its art and has nothing left to provide for them thereafter.

The problem is they aren’t doing it now. And they have not for an awfully long time. And there is no indication they will at any time in the future. They just tell the faithful to give their cash.

It’s not a stupid argument. It was Jesus himself that called on all to live modestly, vows of poverty etc. I didn’t make those statements. Jesus did. So who is the church to simply ignore his direct teachings? Somewhere locked away from human eyes with the rest of the hoard, is there a exception clause? Do they know better? If not I ask again how that squares with the hoarding behavior, opulence etc. of the church because there is zero wiggle room here.
