Jews finding less comfort on the Left
The Orange County Register ^ | September 27, 2015 | Joel Kotkin

Posted on 09/28/2015 7:49:06 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Jews are a contradictory people. Overall, achievement-oriented and very capitalistic, Jewish educational and self-employment statistics are among the highest for any religious group. They are also politically powerful; amounting to roughly 2 percent of the U.S. population – half their percentage a half century ago – Jews account for nine of 100 U.S. senators and 19 of 435 members of the House.

Yet if Jews have achieved significant economic and political power, they have done so primarily as Democrats. Only one of the 28 Jews in Congress is a Republican – Lee Zeldin from New York’s Long Island – and the one independent, Vermont’s Bernie Sanders, is enough of a Democrat to be running, with surprising success, for that party’s presidential nomination.

This conundrum befuddles some conservatives. Ann Coulter, the Right’s blonde shock jock, recently thundered about why Republicans were so anxious to support Israel, asking, “How many f–ing Jews do these people think there are in the United States?” And there is still Pat Buchanan, who reflects classic anti-Semitic notions of Jews as a cabal with divided loyalties....

Why do 70% of US Jews go head-over-heels IN LOVE with a Prez who would turn them into soap and destroy Israel...?

They love socialism above all else.

US and Israel account for ~85%* of Jewish people world-wide. We've already covered the US, so let's look at Israel. government-subsidized universal healthcare system (with compulsory insurance)?**

Again; looking at the world of Jews through an American political lens is myopic. You should have noticed how many Israelis in a wide swath of political parties across the spectrum have served in the military, as once upon a time was the case among American Democrats and Republicans.

Ann Coulter, the Right’s blonde shock jock, recently thundered about why Republicans were so anxious to support Israel, asking, “How many f–ing Jews do these people think there are in the United States?”

It's obvious that Coulter has a crude side to her in private, and this comment was in a tweet. My take is that she was peeved with what she perceived as Mike Huckabee's overemphasis on Israel in the debate, though her anger was obviously misdirected. Her being teed off at Huckabee for this was totally inane. She should have the political sense to know that Huckabee's pro-Israel anti-Islamist sentiments are both (1) genuine from his position as a fundamentalist Christian clergyman and (2) geared primarily for pro-Israel Christians, especially evangelicals, tuned into the debate.

Coulter herself, as far as I know from reading just about every book she has written, is pro-Israel and anti-Islamism and agrees pretty much with Huckabee's stance, but apparently not his debate strategy.

I would agree with a lot of the points in the posted article, but this line tells us that the author still has a misguided soft spot in his heart for the 'Rats:

So far, Jews in America are blessed with two major political parties that, for the most part, are tolerant and express support of Israel. And, for as long as this is the case, Jews, particularly those of European descent, likely will continue to support left-leaning politics more than those of the Right.

Lumping the two major parties in the same boat on support for Israel is living in the past! Writer Kotkin turns a blind eye to (1) "Osama" Obama's putdowns of Netanyahu; (2) Obama's Iran agreement which imperils Israel's very survival and is opposed by almost every Republican in Congress and supported by all but a handful of 'Rats; (3) polling showing a very significant difference between members of the two parties on support for Israel vs. support for Palestinians; (4) the last 'Rat national convention, where recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital in the platform would have been defeated by the delegates if not for a very questionable ruling from the chair on a voice vote; and (5) the virtual expulsion of Joe Lieberman by the 'Rat Party for being too hawkish on Middle East and too close to Israel.

I almost know no Jew here in L.A. who votes GOP.

Do you hang out with a Hollywood (i. e., movie and television industry) crowd? Strange thing is I've met quite a number of Jews from L.A. and vicinity right here on FR. I'm sure they're not Donkey lovers.

The vast majority of Jews are Democrats, thus our political opponents.

Not as vast a majority as you think. Remember that, even according to pro-'Rat polls, about one in three Jewish voters did not support Obama. And even the Jewish author of the posted article, whose sympathies lie with the 'Rats, admits that the general trend for American Jews is away from the left, as it has been with Jews in the UK, France, and Canada.

I love my family. I just don’t understand them. Now they can’t wait to vote for Hillary.

From this Jewish perspective, I'd say your family is meshuge. HRC is a total moral sleazebag, and has as her chief staffer (and reputed lesbian lover) an Arab from a Muslim Brotherhood father and a Muslim Sisterhood mother. While everyone talks about her e-mails, let's not forget how many deaths she is responsible for, not only in Benghazi, but people like her one-time paramour and law partner, Vincent Foster. (If your family believes that Vince Foster committed suicide, I've got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell them.)

The article itself names two conservatives who target the Jews. Responses on this thread quickly deteriorated to identifying the vast majority of American Jews as political adversaries. So the Jews are despised by both the right and left sides of the political spectrum.

Agreed. Even recently there was quite a welcoming for a BDS movement supporter here. The responses were muted by those that objected because of the them and us contingent shouting them down.

I was one of the ones that was attacked. I don't care. I call it the way it is.

“So the Jews are despised by both the right and left sides of the political spectrum.”

If we were politically neutral we’d be hated.

That is the nature of things.

I think Ann Coulter was mocking Hillary.

That's an interesting theory. I would agree that HRC is much better known for that kind of stuff than is Ann Coulter.

HRC is well known to have made an "f-ing Jew" remark to Bill Clinton's congressional campaign director in the aftermath of Clinton's defeat in that race back in 1974. The only thing is, the guy at whom she directed that insult wasn't even Jewish, just had a small percentage of Jewish ancestry.

I believe she also made a similar remarks to Dickie Morris back in AR when Morris was Bill's political adviser. Arkansas state troopers who spent a lot of time around her have stated that such epithets were not out of character for Her Royal Thighness.

I completely agree with you on this. The Jews who are still completely comfortable in the Democratic party are Jews to whom Israel is unimportant or worse (that is, it’s an embarrassment or something to be actively opposed). We are friendly with several liberal groovy Jews to whom Israel is important and I am surprised at how negative they are on Democrats, Hillary, etc. People who three years ago thought Republicans are evil are changing their registration to become one of the evil people.

But I fear it doesn’t matter, because I’m not sure even the rest of America still has it in it to be the country we all grew up in, and that the greatest generation actually fought for. Nature abhors a vacuum, and Obama’s abandonment of Western civilization is being rapidly filled by Czar Vladimir, the Chinese, and lesser lights who see either opportunity or necessity in asserting themselves on the world stage now that the leader of the free world has abandoned its post.
