Prayers for those doing the Lord’s work in dangerous places are always needed and this is a reminder of that.
However, I dug a little more and found this blog with the exact wording found in your letter:
It also shows up as a mass-forwarded email that may or may not have originally been fake. It’s been out there a long time now.
You pastor’s friend is easily fooled by rings of forwarded email... and your pastor didn’t check the validity before pushing it to others.
More discernment by both your pastor and his friends would be wise in the future to avoid mistakes of the same kind over things that could be far more important and with far greater consequences.
Wars and rumors of wars.
The world is full of lies. Be careful out there. May God keep you and your church a faithful remnant in these times.
Therefore, please, God, our Father in Heaven and our Creator, protect your faithful missionaries and other Christians from the evils of ISIS, bless their efforts and console them in their grievous losses incurred in faithfulness to You and Your Word. Also protect the innocents of whatever faith who are threatened by ISIS so that they may have further opportunity to accept Your truth and to be saved. We ask this in the Holy Name of Jesus Christ!

Prayers ascending as my heart is breaking. I can only imagine what those brave people are going through. I know missionaries are required to think through this situation before leaving. I know what it is like as situations become tense. But, I can only imagine having the children killed and you left behind as part of your service.
How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging their blood on those who dwell on the earth?
