I heard some of his sermons on Baptism. Here’s one:

How is Protestantism like Islam ? If there are no Jews at hand the Moslems subdivide and oppose themselves. If Jews become part of the environment some Muslims inevitably turn and cry "Here is a Jew" and try to turn the corporate wrath against the Jew. Similarly, Protestantism has continually split and devolved since its inception nearly 500 years ago. While engaged in internicene theological combat it is far too tempting to try to shift the attack against Catholics, no matter the fragmentation and incipient heresies threatening Protestantism. This is unprofitable. As an alternative, here is the Apostle Paul testifying there is one holy catholic church.

With 22 flavors of Catholicism. Just like islam if you're going to start with those comparisons.

The EO and RC split some thousand years ago, disagree on some significant doctrinal issues, and each consider the other the to be in schism with themselves being the real true OTC.

So, tell us, which one is right about their history? Which one is the true original Catholicism?

Can you receive communion at an Eastern Orthodox church?

Well stated. I am cautious but optimistic. I believe the multiple reports from Muslim countries, Africa, Asia of miracles associated with spreading the Gospel.

Which is what they are for as I understand in my investigating the matter.

God never does miracles just for the heck of it or for entertainment or convenience. In looking into it more carefully, the point of the miracles was to verify the message.

What we have here in churches today, is NOT what there was in the NT church. God did not give the gifts to be used on the church to give us a comfortable life. And too often there are simply claims of being healed because *The pain is gone! I've been healed!!! Hallelujah* There's no verifying it.

In the NT, the miracles accompanied the message.

Besides, I'm with the skeptics on this one. If those people really truly had the genuine gift of healing, they would be where they are needed, in hospitals, rehab centers, ER's, healing people and preaching the gospel and seeing them get both healed and saved.

They would not be holding meetings and expecting the sick to come to them. They'd be obeying Jesus' command to GO! and letting HIM provide their needs and not making a living off of it.

I don't doubt that there are genuine healings that occur in churches, but not to the degree that is claimed.

I’m sure the devil meddles sometimes, but I think most of any fakery going on is just plain old attention seeking, or wanting to “fit in” with everyone else doing it. Anytime people get together in large groups, they get that “crowd mentality” and can be real susceptible to that kind of thing.

I've seen that in Pentecostal *revival* meetings I've attended.

The speaker works the crowd very smoothly and I've seen people drop under suspicious circumstances where I was wondering if the people had not inadvertently gotten hypnotized to respond to certain words. The one that seems to be the most used is the word *fire*.

And there are some people who are constantly having stuff like that happen to them. It's a regular occurrence with them. You can count on them going down when they go up.

I doubt that's genuine as well.

Indeed. I would think those with the gift to heal would be visiting pediatric oncology wards at hospitals.

I spent a lot of weeks over a three year period in one and not one faith healer showed. However there were plenty of Christians showing up to pray with us and for us.

I learned the power of prayer during those weeks.

I do know people who have been healed of stuff, cancer, deafness, diabetes, a MRSA infection on my part.

So I really do believe that God heals today, but the GIFT of healing as presented in Scripture does not seem to be so prolific.

I certainly cannot say that I’ve actually met someone with the GIFT of healing as much as those who fancy themselves to have a *healing ministry* with no better a success rate than any Joe off the street.

MacArthur had a conference called *Strange Fire* and in it Joni Eareckson Tada relates her experience in attending a healing conference by a well known (alleged)faith healer.

Some people just can’t accept that God doesn’t heal all the time.

I’ve had friends tell me that even while I still can’t eat and experience symptoms and react when I do, that I am still really healed and I need to apprehend it so it manifests.

And if I don’t say I’m healed, they get ticked.

You know, when Jesus healed people, they were healed. Their circumstances changed. I don’t find one bit of Scriptural warrant for this mentality of believing you’re healed when you’ve still got whatever. Jesus never sent them away telling them that they were healed even when they couldn’t tell and they just had to have enough faith for it to be so.

1Co_1:22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:

Some seek after the wisdom of God...Others seek after the wisdom that human philosophy provides...

1Co_14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

Nobody believes God any more, and some never did...

If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your[a] faith; . . .

This kind of prophesying is not the kind employed by God who spoke directly to His Prophets, who announced His message by progressive special revelation of Bible truths not afore known, and which was written and added to The Holy Scripture, sometimes foretelling future events.

Rather, the prophesying of the verse cited is the telling of God's message already a part of the Holy Scripture, interpreted, explained, and applied to Christian life, declaring it to his assembly of disciples through preaching of The Word.

Of course, as the Gospel of the New Testament/Covenant--the Second Will of The God with the First Will having been rescinded (Heb. 10:8-10)--being proclaimed by His heralds, and new scripture being written by these New Testament prophets Levi, Mark, Luke, John, Paul, Jacob, Jude, and Peter, was being revealed, so was the ordinary preaching of the Gospel truths taking place by their appointed elders concurrently.

However, all the knowledge God wants His subjects to have for belief in Him and for practicing The Faith is now permanently included in the canon of Scripture, and cannot be diminished, or superseded by something proclaimed after the death of the last Apostle, Prophet, and Theologian Beloved John circa 100 Anno Domini, the canon then being closed to addition, but opened for exposition.

The gifts of the Romans 12 passage you mentioned are natural gifts employed by the Holy Spirit then and now for the ongoing operation of His churches. In contrast, the supernatural gifts mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12:10, operative only in the first century church, were done away with, as explained in the next chapter, verses 8-10, of their own accord when they no longer were necessary. To be clear, when "that which is perfect comes" then the things which were only partial, the temporarily imparted spiritual gifts, were voided.

That is the doctrine of cessation of these special, temporary, non-operative gifts, no longer needed nor included in the repertoire of the ministries of the People of God.

Your "charismatic" person claims that the verse 1 Cor. 13:10 is speaking of the Second Coming of Jesus; but that cannot be, because the demonstrative pronoun is neuter in gender, and therefore cannot possibly refer to the coming if Jesus, else it would be masculine. The that refers to the Holy Bible, the fully and finally completed revelation of the Word of The God, the concluding commands of which are:

"For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book" (Rev. 22:18-19 AV).

These facts contribute to MacArthur's decision to warn the body of believers of the false doctrines of continuing "speaking of tongues" that no man, not even the speaker can understand, nor of peeping into the particularly private relationship of a man, woman, or child with one's Holy, Heavenly Father by employing an intrusive gift of reading one's mind or heart by some satanic device misatrributed to exercise of a "word of knowledge" or "discerning of spirits" as a special ability conferred upon another human. To think this is now possible is a great misinterpretation of this passage.

Having been exposed at this whole mindset and misleading of credulous spiritual infants, having wrongly responded to it, and led out of it by the Word of God which contradicts the phenomenon, I now find it entirely reasonable to agree with MacArthur that these effects manifested by the "charismatics" do not come from My Heavenly Father, from the Captain and Savior of my soul, or the Spirit Who is to lead and control through the Word of God alone.

Praise God from Whom all blessings come! He alone, and not some other fallible human, is the source of wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, discernment, hermeneutics of Biblical interpretation, and above all, mercy, and GRACE when I will greatly need it to ease me out of this life and into His Presence with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise.

Hmmm . . .

Make no mistake, Paul's recommendation to Timothy was likely suggested by their co-worker, the physician Luke, and was most certainly only for treating his aesthenia, not ethanol as a recreational drug. Note the word "a little" which should alert any Christian against its casual use, let alone generously.

So, however you view this incident, it did make Charismatics look bad.

No; it does not.

It's this using of ONE or more eccentrics from a certain (or any) group, to justify saying they are ALL this way.

It's an easy way of not doing your homework.

After several months I stopped listening to him for he seemed to preach “unless you agree with how I interpret the Bible, then you are wrong and not a ‘true Christian.’”

He's a Catholic?

Folks who are lacking in knowledge think that there is only ONE kind of 'tongues'; but the Bible is plain there are TWO.

1. The kind where you need another to interpret what was said
2. The kind where only GOD knows what was said.

1 Corinthians 14:27
If anyone speaks in a tongue, two--or at the most three--should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret.

...and verse 2...

2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

I listened to Pastor McArthur recently - it was an EXCELLENT sermond regarding homosexuality. He’s a brave man.

Genesis 13:13
Now the men of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the LORD.

Genesis 18:20-21
20. Then the LORD said, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and
their sin so grievous
21. that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know."

Genesis 19:4-7
4. Before they had gone to bed, all the men
from every part of the city of Sodom--both young and old--surrounded the house.
5. They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them
."
6. Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him
7. and said, "No, my friends. Don't do this wicked thing.

Psalms 12:8 The wicked freely strut about when what is vile is honored among men.

Doonesbury Cartoon for Feb/08/2013

Isaiah 3:9 The look on their faces testifies against them; they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to them! They have brought disaster upon themselves.

2 Peter 2:13b Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.

Ezekiel 16:49-50
49. "`Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.
50. They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.

2 Peter 2

1. But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves.
2. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute.
3. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.
4. For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment;
5. if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;
6. if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly;
7. and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men
8. (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)--
9. if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their punishment.
10. This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature and despise authority. Bold and arrogant, these men are not afraid to slander celestial beings;
11. yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not bring slanderous accusations against such beings in the presence of the Lord.
12. But these men blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like beasts they too will perish.
13. They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done.
Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.

But there IS hope!!!

1 Corinthians 6:9-11

9. Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived:
Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders
10. nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
11. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

If you could NOT change, you would be in most pitiful shape...

Yes, Benny Hinn, really; and as you’ll see, it’s about to get worse as apparently Dr. Brown now feels the need to come to Hinn’s defense. I’ll refer you to the rest of this piece by Justin Peters for more on the sordid history and WF doctrine of Benny Hinn. He is truly indefensible and it’s quite interesting Brown doesn’t seem to see this.

Luke 7:39
When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.”

We see endless posts of unscriptural adoration and worship of bones and idols, yet want to stifle discussion of what Scripture ACTUALLY tells us.

You just have to take their word for it. Whether it really is from God or not. If you question it, you’re basically accusing them of lying and they get all bent out of shape over that. I’ve had people get mad over those who question someone’s claim that something is from God. We’re just supposed to take their say so on it.

They are merely return to the root: Catholicism.
