Planned Parenthood and the silence of the Church

Having taken a six-week break from social media, the internet and writing, it was with a sense of trepidation that I emerged from my cocoon. What has been going on in the world? In seeking to catch up I read over newsfeeds, papers and websites, and found there is one issue that stands out – mainly because apart from in US Christian circles, the silence has been deafening. I am talking, of course, about the Planned Parenthood videos. I am sure that most readers on Christian Today will be aware of the basics of the story – how the Center for Medical Progress set up a series of sting videos in which representatives of Planned Parenthood discuss selling aborted baby body parts. The latest of these is beyond horrific – describing dismembering a baby as 'cool' is a new low in the abortion debate.

What intrigues me, though, is the silence of both the British media and much of the British Church. As I trawled through the news I found surprisingly little about the scandal. There was an excellent article in The Telegraph, but just one news item from the BBC headlined 'Planned Parenthood Funding target of Senate Republicans', which simply leaves the impression that right wing nutcases are up to their usual tricks of being against women. The Guardian, meanwhile, ran a series of articles about the wonderful work that Planned Parenthood does and – just to reassure its readers – gave us a piece from a scientist who "examines anti-abortion arguments". The fact that the scientist concerned was a physicist (not a biologist) and that he used almost no scientific evidence to deal with the main questions was something that seemed to pass most readers by.

Hate to say this Morgana but the Catholic Church Hierarchy has become very corrupt. I am sticking around as long as I can but I really wonder if my parish priest will some day say “Leave us you nativist, pro-life, pro traditional marriage, and orthodox right winger.”

It isn’t just the Catholic Church Hierarchy that’s fallen into corruption. The old mainline Protestant fell long ago and today much of the Evangelical church is quickly following suit as it falls into irrelevance. The Reformed Presbyterian, Lutheran, and Baptist are holding steady, even though there are some cracks here and there.

Silent on abortion, silent on Christian persecution—the weekly potlucks and Bible Studies go on undisturbed.

I can say this, my parish is still pro life as was the ones I was in before that. I have been very fortunate to have very good pro life priests that spoke pro life sermons.

Work at the local levels. Work with your priests and bishops. Let them know you are pro life and you expect that of them!!

This is an American problem. PP operates only 4 offices in GB.

America is lost tell men of G_D once more stand at the front of the church in full black rope. 1776 was not just patriots but also the Black Robe Brigade at war beside the members of there church’s.

Good for you. I’ll do as you say. My experience with Clergy has not been as good as yours. Right now I am Catholic in spite of the Hierarchy.

Going to protest Planned Parenthood tomorrow and pro-life meeting tonight.

I always thought the Roman Catholic Church would get smaller because the progressives would finally leave and we would have a stronger church. Now it may be the Catholic Church gets smaller because the traditional or orthodox Catholics are ordered to leave.

PS:
Oh by the way, bet you the the Pope dumps on the Trump in September.

Depends on where you are. Our parish is very active supporting the Pro-Life movement. we have three buses from our parish going to March for life and we also open up to the non-Catholic churches here locally.

Great! You so blessed. My current parish seems to be OK.

My current Bishop however is very quiet on the horrors of Planned Parenthood.

My former pastor at my former parish hated Forty Days For Life.

So, the author thinks the liberal press is going to print stories on Christian opposition. Seriously. They won’t even print stories about the abortion videos. There have been protests at Planned Butcherhood clinics all over the place. This guy needs to get out of his bubble,

I’m guessing the Pope is more interested in global warming than about ripping babies to shreds.

...that the killing of babies in the womb is a barbaric sin, as deserving of the judgment of God as the slaughter of babies to Molech was in the Old Testament.

Amen.

Excellent article.
