Dr. Jake Hebert: My Creation Journey

by Jake Hebert, Ph.D. *

I joined the science team at ICR in the fall of 2011 as a Research Associate after receiving my Ph.D. in physics. Most of my ICR research focuses on deep-ice cores and seafloor sediments, as well as cosmological and general apologetics research.

My journey to taking part in a creation research ministry started early in life. I became a born-again Christian at the age of seven, but in middle school I started having intellectual doubts about the validity of the Christian faith. Although my doubts were more of a general nature and did not center exclusively on the creation-evolution issue, it’s striking that surveys show nearly 40% of young people who no longer completely trust the Bible’s account of history had their first doubts in middle school, likely due to their first systematic exposure to evolutionary and old-earth doctrine. 1

I am no scientist but scientists that start with the premise that there is a Creator and He has spoken to us through His Word, can find He spoke through His Creation, too. Way before He had those created in His image and likeness wrote it on parchment for us to read.

And when one couples the study of Creation (science)and the study of the Creator(Scripture),one can be greatly blessed in knowing His unfathomable order is not an accident or a series of cosmic lucky chance.

And imperfect men seems to prove de-evolution as we get further along but scripture has an answer to why for that too.

You will love this email I received. I did.

Subject: NASA Proves Bible is True

Jesus said “broad is way to destruction and many are on it. Narrow is the path to heaven and few find it.”

NASA Proves Bible is True

“We must obey God rather than men.”
ACTS 5:29

THIS IS AMAZING

NASA & THE BIBLE

Thought this was pretty amazing and interesting.

For all the scientists out there, and for all the students who have a hard time convincing these people regarding the truth of the Bible, here’s something that shows God’s awesome creation, and that He is still in control.

Did you know that the space program is busy proving that what has been called ‘myth’ in the Bible is true?

Mr. Harold Hill , President of the Curtis Engine Company in Baltimore, Maryland, and a consultant in the space program, relates the following development.

‘I think one of the most amazing things that God has done for us today happened recently to our astronauts and space scientists at Green Belt, Maryland...

They were checking out where the positions of the sun, moon, and planets would be 100 years and 1,000 years from now.

We have to know this so we won’t send up a satellite and have it bump into something later on in its orbits.

We have to lay out the orbits in terms of the life of the satellite and where the planets will be so the whole thing will not bog down.

They ran the computer measurement back and forth over the centuries, and it came to a halt.

The computer stopped and put up a red signal, which meant that there was something wrong with either the information fed into it or with the results as compared to the standards.

They called in the service department to check it out, and they said, ‘What’s wrong?’ Well, they found there is a day missing in space in elapsed time.

They scratched their heads and tore their hair out.

There was no answer.

Finally a Christian man on the team said, ‘You know, one time I was in Sunday School , and they talked about the sun standing still.’ While they didn’t believe him, they didn’t have an answer either, so they said, ‘Show us, ‘

He got a Bible and went to the book of Joshua where they found a pretty ridiculous statement for any one with ‘common sense.’

There they found the Lord saying to Joshua, ‘Fear them not, I have delivered them into thy hand; there shall not a man of them stand before Thee.’ Joshua was concerned because he was surrounded by the enemy!

And if darkness fell, they would overpower them.

So Joshua asked the Lord to make the sun stand still!

That’s right ‘The sun stood still and the moon stayed and lasted not to go down about a whole day!’

(Joshua 10:12-13)

The astronauts and scientists said, there is the missing day!

They checked the computers going back into the time it was written and found it was close but not close enough.

The elapsed time that was missing back in Joshua’s day was 23 hours and 20 minutes Not a whole day.

They read the Bible, and there it was about [approximately] a day.

These little words in the Bible are important, but they were still in trouble because if you cannot account for 40 minutes, you’ll still be in trouble 1000 years from now
Forty minutes had to be found because it can be multiplied many times over in orbits.

As the Christian employee thought about it, he remembered somewhere in the Bible where it said the sun went BACKWARDS.

The scientists told him he was out of his mind, but they got out the Book and read these words in 2 Kings that told of the following story: Hezekiah , on his death bed, was visited by the prophet Isaiah who told him that he was not going to die. Hezekiah asked for a sign as proof. Isaiah said ‘Do you want the sun to go ahead 10 degrees?’

Hezekiah said, ‘It is nothing for the sun to go ahead 10 degrees, but let the shadow return backward 10 degrees.’ Isaiah spoke to the Lord, and the Lord brought the shadow ten degrees BACKWARD! Ten degrees is exactly 40 minutes!’

Twenty-three hours and 20 minutes in Joshua, plus 40 minutes in Second Kings make the missing day in the universe! Isn’t it amazing?

References: Joshua 10:8, 12-13 and 2 Kings 20:9-11.

If God could do this then; how much more can he do for us today, if we only believe in His word.

All I have and all that I am is by the Grace of God.

I don’t mean to offend, but your e-mail “NASA Proves Bible is True” is internet fiction. I saw this for the first time about 20 years ago, and it was debunked then.

You can find some credible sites to verify, but I don’t have the time to do that now.

Grace and Peace,

One clue is the part about our satellites maybe bumping into planets or the sun.

I really must check Snopes et.al. before posting some really inspirational emails which I receive from a special friend.

Apologies for the oversight.

Without the science of astronomy, I never would have been able to see the sign of Revelation 12- the woman clothed with the sun and the moon under her feet was as much a physical sign and event (that last occurred on September 26, 2014) than it was symbolic.

When one sees what it represents in Scripture, lots of mysteries can be opened that would cause people to pay much more attention to that sun, moon stars and planets He created.
Brings new meaning to the Word made flesh.

I first heard this circa 1970, long before Al Gore invented the internet (speaking of myths). It’s obvious that neither NASA nor anyone else has a time machine, and that ordinary retrocalculation could not yield any such result.

It has been around for 125 years, at least:

http://www.truthorfiction.com/joshuaday/

[snip] It is interesting to note that an attempt to explain Joshua’s long day from a scientific standpoint was published many years before Harold Hill’s NASA story. In the 1930s, Dr Harry Rimmer wrote a book called ‘The Harmony of Science and Scripture’, in which he drew from an 1890 book by Yale professor C.A. Totten.

Using popular biblical chronologies of the time, Totten concluded that the world was created 4,000 years before the birth of Christ, on Sunday, September 22, 4000BC. However, he said that the calendar calculations showed that September 22 was actually a Monday, and not a Sunday, and that the error was probably because of Joshua’s missing day.

Totten also makes reference to the Hezekiah story in 2 Kings and argues that this accounts for another missing 20 minutes or so. Totten’s calculations sound suspiciously familiar to the NASA story. The bottom line seems to be that there is a lot still missing about ‘the Missing Day’. [/snip]

I shall limit my scientific inquiries to your posts - which never disappoint.

Kind kudos;)
