Chairman of Fordham’s theology department marries another man
The Deacon's Bench ^ | 7/3/15 | Deacon Greg Kandra

Somehow, I missed this little item in last Sunday’s New York Times. A reader sent it my way:

Patrick Anthony Bergquist and J. Patrick Hornbeck II were married Saturday in Manhattan. The Rev. Matthew J. Moretz performed the ceremony at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, where he is an associate rector.

Mr. Bergquist, 35, is the director of children, youth and family ministries at St. Bartholomew’s. He graduated from Anderson University in Indiana and received a master’s degree in theology from Northern Seminary in Lombard, Ill…

…Dr. Hornbeck, 33, is the chairman of the theology department and an associate professor of medieval and reformation history at Fordham University in the Bronx. He graduated from Georgetown and received a doctoral degree in theology from Oxford University.

You can read the full announcement here.

What possible other outcome could you expect at a Catholic University in the United States? The shockingest part is he wasn't married at Fordham's church, what is it...St. Johns?

And by the priest in charge of the University Mission...

I’m guessing that Fordham’s administrative elections are closed to the public?

What??? I just checked because I thought I must be losing my grasp on facts. Fordham is a Roman Catholic university. Isn't the Roman Catholic Church ever going to get around to excommunicating folks who flaunt their disobedience of Church beliefs?

Is the Church yet another institution lost to us, for good? Do the Orthodox Church or any others still follow principles of religion?

It seems that the playbook of the forces of evil is to hit us hard now, on all fronts, keep decent law-abiding and moral people divided, and fully implement their agenda so we don't have time to put up a defense.

I cannot in good conscience celebrate the Fourth of July this year. What freedoms do we have that aren't under attack, and the attackers are winning big time.

How about making July 4th a day of prayer and penance, instead?

Guess they don’t have to worry about losing “Tax Exempt” status.
Them Jesuits, bless their hearts.

Uh Oh. My rising senior daughter has visited Fordham and wants to go there (too steep a price for us anyway, most likely.)

We will have to rethink that one - thanks for posting.

From the article. Pay close attention to the "E" word.

And yes, Fordham should fire the idiot ... just as numerous Roman Catholic institutions have done in the past.

You ought to take a look at the Newman Guide when considering a Catholic university. Ones listed there are much more likely to not be utter cesspools. Also, you should check out international schools. For example, tuition at the Angelicum (Pontifical University of St Thomas) in Rome ranges from €1,450 per year to €2,520 per year (there are extra fees for examinations, etc.), but still...it's dirt cheap compared to here in the states.

I saw the E word and the RCA INSTITUTION HE TEACHES AT...

NOW WE’ll see if he gets communion like Pelosie - or a continuing job.

Look at Hornbeck’s faculty page. Isn’t interesting that he studied heretical groups for his PhD, but now...

“In this area, he has received grants to study both the theological, psychological, and sociological processes through which Roman Catholics move from affiliation and engagement with the Catholic Church to disaffiliation and disengagement; and the legal, ethical, and theological dimensions of the relationship between lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) persons and the American Catholic Church.”

And look at his photo. Sometimes it is sooooo obvious.
