Catholic Leaders Resolve to Hold Firm to Biblical Marriage Teaching

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Supreme Court ruled Friday that same-sex “marriage” is a constitutional right, in a long-awaited decision that will have sweeping and unpredictable consequences for U.S. jurisprudence, cultural norms and religious freedom.

Catholic leaders, legal scholars and marriage experts reacted with dismay to the landmark ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges and three related cases.

But they also expressed resolve that the decision would not discourage their efforts to preach and teach the truth about marriage and to advance respect for the institution as a union of one man and one woman committed to the care and education of children.

“The Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision on marriage is not a surprise. The surprise will come as ordinary people begin to experience, firsthand and painfully, the impact of today’s action on everything they thought they knew about marriage, family life, our laws and our social institutions,” said Archbishop Charles Chaput of Philadelphia, in a statement marking the decision.

“The mistakes of the court change nothing about the nature of men and women and the truth of God’s word. The task now for believers is to form our own families even more deeply in the love of God and to rebuild a healthy marriage culture, one marriage at a time, from the debris of today’s decision.”

Archbishop Joseph Kurtz of Louisville, Ky., the president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, equated today’s decision with the court’s controversial Roe v. Wade ruling that legalized abortion on demand. And he vowed that Church leaders would not abandon the truth about marriage.

“Jesus Christ, with great love, taught unambiguously that, from the beginning, marriage is the lifelong union of one man and one woman,” said Archbishop Kurtz, in a statement.

Weighing Obergefell’s Impact

Meanwhile, the Ruth Institute, which addresses the impact of the sexual revolution on women and familiies, warned that the landmark ruling shifted the issue of same-sex “marriage” from a matter of public debate to a constitutional mandate, with serious consequences for the rights of natural parents and their children.

“The Obergefell decision tacitly declares that invented rights of adults take precedence over natural rights of children,” said Ruth Institute founder and president Jennifer Roback Morse. “The policy of the United States government will henceforth be to take sides with ‘intended parents’ in disputes with natural parents and against the legitimate interests of children to their own genetic and cultural heritage.”

“The Supreme Court has surreptitiously redefined parenthood as a side effect of redefining marriage,” Morse charged.

Catholic ping!

One of my wife’s, excuse me, domestic partner’s Catholic friends is coming over after while. She’s an Hispanic. 87 years old. Her mouth won’t melt butter. A life-long democrat. I just told my domestic partner that if she (her friend) even mentions the Scotus decision I am going to ask her if she supports the decision? Then if she is for abortion? I know what her answer will be. Then if she knows what party implemented those programs? The Republican? The Democrats? I am fed up with these people that vote for the democrats without ever considering who and what they are voting for. Or the responsibility for voting for them. We’ll see where it goes from there.

This should not be news and should not be surprising. Still, I am relieved to read that the Catholic Church will follow the Bible.

The First Amendment prohibition that Congress shall make no law establishing religion is all but gone. Soon courts will force churches to change their doctrine regarding homosexual marriage or lose their tax exemption or face discrimination law suits.

Most Catholics support gay marriage, and are democrat voters.

So if your friend is a normal Catholic, then she is a democrat.

Good luck but don't hold your breath. Earlier in the week on Fox and Friends, they interviewed a young woman who volunteered to serve on Hillary Clinton's campaign. Osorio, a Clinton supporter since 2007, enthusiastically applied for a job with the Clinton campaign. They ended up offering her an unpaid internship, which would have required Osorio to move to Nevada and find housing on her own dime. She turned it down. Guess what? The woman who spoke out against Hillary Clinton for "exploiting" unpaid interns said this morning she will still vote for the former First Lady. Read the Story.

“The Obergefell decision tacitly declares that invented rights of adults take precedence over natural rights of children,”

Jennifer Roback Morse has been both perceptive and foresighted about developments since the early 90s, at least. In this case, as usual, she's dead-on. A society dedicated to accommodating the immediate desires of adults must be indifferent to the needs and suffering of children.

What a big laugh. All these people can do is voice their complaints. In the mean time, these PC crowd keeps pushing and these people keep drawing one red line after another. They have no respect for any one or anything. We’ve lost our leaders in Washington, and now we don’t have any leadership from the pulpit either.

Well, they were behind the 8 ball on Roe V Wade. It was passed before they even knew what it them.

Same for Euthanasia. It was passed, here in WA State, before they even knew it was an issue.

Homosexual marriage has been on the docket for years. They were sitting on their hands, again. Now it is too late.

Because of the homosexuals in the priesthood, they have lost Ireland. Ireland, where the monks protected the knowledge that the Muslims were destroying as they progressed in their conquest of all of Christendom.

I waiting for first lawsuit start happen against Cathoic church

I am always amazed at how people ignore world events, then panic when it happens in their own country. Here is a list of countries where gay marriage has been legalized and the years in which it occurred.

Country — year legalized

The Catholic Church is present in all of those countries. So far, no lawsuit or challenge has been issued against the Church. This does not mean that it will not happen. On Friday, "Mr. Sulu" of Star Trek fame was interview by CNN. The actor, George Takei, is a gay activist. In the interview,he said:

Indeed we see it as a challenge. It's going to be a -- a new challenge. But we are very mindful of that challenge that still remains. They are now -- some of these, um, states, are -- going to try to use the, uh, shroud of religious freedom. I believe in religious freedom, and people who argue that are entitled to their freedom. But they do not have the freedom to impose their religious values on to others. I've heard some of the people, uh, expressing their comments on the, uh, Supreme Court ruling, and they're entitled to that. But they are not entitled to impose their will on everybody.

As Rush Limbaugh noted: "You see, this is what's wrong with this. Nobody in the... I can't believe I'm saying this. Nobody in the heterosexual world is forcing anything on anybody. They're minding their own business and having something forced on them, is what's happening here. So Mr. Takei says: Hey, you're free to have your religious beliefs. Have them all you like. I have mine, too. But you can't impose your religious values on to others. But Mr. Takei and his group can impose their beliefs on you all day every day or you will lose your business.)

You can read the rest of the interview HERE.

Hold fast to your faith and pray for our nation, the pope, our bishops and those in religious life.
