Pray for our American Heroes and Nation

Father God, You alone are God. You are holy and altogether lovely. Those of us blessed by You to know Your goodness are in awe of You.

Thinking of the members of the body of Christ, particularly in the Nation for which You have made us responsible in prayer, we pray along with David, “Let them be put to shame and consumed who are adversaries to our lives; let them be covered with reproach, scorn, and dishonor who seek and require our hurt. But we will hope continually, and will praise You yet more and more. Our mouths shall tell of Your righteous acts and of Your deeds of salvation all the day, for their number is more than we know. We will come in the strength and with the mighty acts of the Lord God; we will mention and praise Your righteousness, even Yours alone.”

Our hearts yearn for every member of our Armed Forces, including those in the service academies. Let Your Word have free course among them. Pour out of Your Spirit of Truth, God, and open the eyes of their understanding to see and understand Your love. Forgive those things authorities have done to remove You and let Your laborers come to their comrades “in the strength and with the mighty acts of the Lord God as they mention and praise Your righteousness.” Cause them to be a success and protect their physical bodies by Your grace, Sir.

We believe, “You Who have shown us [all] troubles great and sore will quicken us again and will bring us up again from the depths of the earth.” Thank You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

IN THE COLDEST and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered his prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting Glory, and bestowed His Manifold Blessings upon the new Nation.

FROM THE BRAVE, albeit weary, ill-equipped, and untrained volunteers who marched into Valley Forge on 19 December 1777 arose, with the help of some gallant friends from across the waves, the cohesive fighting force that became the United States Army, global defender of Freedom and scourge of Tyrants.



AS GENERAL WASHINGTON lifted his prayers on high in that bleak Winter, let our prayers now rise like a fountain for our Heroes in the American Armed Forces who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and gather them in the shelter of Your Healing Wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.
