From Southern Baptist to Goddess Worship, Sue Monk Kidd

Excerpted:

What Catholic mysticism does is reject the Bible as the sole and sufficient and perfect revelation of God and tries to delve beyond the Bible, even beyond thought of any kind, and find God through mystical “intuition.” In other words, it is a rejection of the God of the Bible. It says that God cannot be known by doctrine and cannot be described in words. He can only be experienced through mysticism. This is a blatant denial of the Bible’s claim to be the very Word of God.

This opens the practitioner to demonic delusion. He is left with no perfect objective revelation of God, no divinely-revealed authority by which he can test his mystical experiences and intuitions. He is left with an idol of his own vain imagination (Jeremiah 17:9) and a doctrine of devils.

She (Sue Monk Kidd) determined that she was willing to lose her marriage, if necessary.

"I would not, could not forfeit my journey for my marriage or for the sake of religious acceptance or success as a ‘Christian writer.’ I would keep moving in my own way to the strains of feminine music that sifted up inside me, not just moving but embracing the dance. ... I felt the crumbling of the old patriarchal foundation our marriage had rested upon in such hidden and subtle ways. Though both of us would always need to compromise, there was no more sacrificing myself, no more revolving around him, no more looking to him for validation, trying to be what I thought he needed me to be. My life, my time, my decisions became newly my own" (pp. 98, 125).

Mark really around in Jesus' time--they almost caught him when he was streaking through the Mount of Olives . . .

“I wish I was in Dixie.”

With family there, going back for a visit with the turning of the leaves in early November.

I’ve been singing in the choir of an Anglican Catholic parish for a few weeks now. I’ve long been more an OT believer, but I love the mystery of the mass too. The music here is so contemplative; mainly Victorian and Renaissance. ‘Makes me feel great throughout the day.

I’m going to ride this high for awhile.

I heard a rumor, though I have no idea if it is true or not, that Mark was known as the stump fingered one, because he lost several fingers that night, as they tried to catch him. Who knows for sure, but if he were alive today, he would probably be named Ray Stevens, and he would probably be yelling, Don't look Ethel.

From http://www.army.mil/article/36375/gen-wainwright-survived-bataan-death-march/

"When Gen. Douglas MacArthur left Bataan for service in Australia, Lt. Gen. Jonathan M. Wainwright became the senior field commander of US and Filipino forces in the Philippine Islands. Holding off a major Japanese assault in January earned the American-Filipino forces the nickname 'Battling Bastards of Bataan.' "

From Wiki:

"Ultimately, more than 60,000 Filipino and 15,000 American prisoners of war were forced into the Bataan Death March. However, about 10,000-12,000 of these eventually escaped from the march to form guerrilla units in the mountains, tying down the occupying Japanese."

=====

MacArthur left, Wainwright stayed. I don't know how he/they endured and survived. Maybe it was through "contemplative revenge."

If I remember right, General Wainwright had a front row seat on the Missouri in Tokyo Bay. I thought it was rather interesting. Maybe many people were expecting MacArthur to make a long winded speech. It was very short, ending quickly with the words, "these proceedings are closed." I saw an interview with a Japanese diplomat (he spoke English) You could see him on the deck of the Missouri. He said he looked at all the ships, the soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines, and wondered what on earth were the Japanese leaders ever thinking of when they ordered the attack on Pearl Harbor.

...but if not...

The entire British Empire knew EXACTLY what was being referred to when Churchill uttered these words...

If the Church preaches that, then the Church is wrong.

If?

Merely read many remarks from Catholics on these threads; for THEY sure indicate that THEY believe this!

I wonder where THEY got THEIR info from?

"One indeed is the universal Church of the faithful, outside which no one at all is saved, in which the priest himself is the sacrifice, Jesus Christ, whose body and blood are truly contained in the sacrament of the altar under the species of bread and wine; the bread (changed) into His body by the divine power of transubstantiation, and the wine into the blood, so that to accomplish the mystery of unity we ourselves receive from His (nature) what He Himself received from ours." — Pope Innocent III and Lateran Council IV (A.D. 1215)

After all, according to you the Catholics had all the texts, and you happily cite scripture to support your point; ergo, you must necessarily agree with what the Catholics gave you.

You are correct.

But I do NOT agree with a lot of the OTHER stuff that Catholicism is handing out.

IF the extrabiblical teachings are SO important; then they should have included them into the bible before it's copyright ran out on them.

It's now in the public domain.

Thanks; Rome!

I like all the quotes on your home page!

But Illinois is NOT Yankeeland.

It’s DAMNED Yankeeland.

(Those Southern wounds have not scabbed over YET! ;^)

If Mary’s not the mother of God, who is Jesus?

Do you not realize that NOWHERE in the bible is mary called 'mother of GOD'?

Mother of Jesus; yes.

And...

Why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should visit me?
Luke 1:43

Mother of GOD is so burned into your subconscious mind by the numberless times you've said and heard "Hail Mary, mother of GOD" that you have a visceral revulsion anytime it is challenged.

No thought involved, but an automatic, instinctual response.

God and his Son know me, and that’s all that matters to me.

You sure you're Catholic?

Sounds mighty Protestant in it's simplicity...

I assume you believe Mary died a couple thousand years ago, so if she is receiving any prayers she must be receiving them somewhere.

Your assumption is correct; the first part.

Your assumption that she MUST be 'receiving prayers' is your own.

More precisely; what your church has taught you.

Hence, my question to you was simple: Is your heaven or afterlife “time” based on the 24-hour clock? Because if it is a 24-hour clock, then all who reside there are restrained and constrained by that clock.

I’m still waiting for your answer.

Someone asked Jesus about 'time' once.

What was His reply?

Mark 13:32
"But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

WHY would the Father even NEED to know the time; you ask?

I stopped going to Mass when it was changed from Latin to English, and they trotted out the guitars.

Did the CONTENT change?

Or just the method?

I wish OUR church still had a choir! (bass)

It went out when the guitars came in; too!

Along with the Christmas cantata.

Amen, amen, AMEN!!!

(Even occasionally those pounding, "I love my boyfriend" songs that the guitars play.)

I’m old enough to remember pre Vatican 2 and yes, it was taught that only Catholics were saved.

I remember in the late 60’s even, I joined a Girl Scout troop that met in the basement of a ***GASP*** BAPTIST church.

Well, I wasn’t sure if going into that church was a sin or not, and neither were my parents. They checked and found out that as long as I went in the back entrance and right into the basement where they met, I was OK. But under NO circumstances was I to go into the sanctuary. THAT would be a sin if I went into the section where they actually worshiped.

Poorly catechized is the label you’d be given.

However, trusting Christ and Him alone is what counts.

For there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Peter in Acts 4)
