Roman Catholicism: The One True Church?
Rapture Ready ^ | Stephen Meehan

Posted on 05/18/2015 6:05:47 PM PDT by Old Yeller

For years, growing up as a Roman Catholic, we were taught that we were members of the one true church. It was impressed upon us regularly by the parish priest during Mass while giving his homily; by the nuns all throughout my Catholic parochial school years of second through seventh grade.

It was impressed upon us during our preparation to receive for the first time the sacraments of Penance, Communion and Confirmation. And while attending CCD classes all the way through high school. (CCD is the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, an association established at Rome in 1562 for the purpose of giving religious education, normally designed for children.)

It was an established fact that we understood and we never questioned the validity of it. And to be honest, it was a matter of pride, that we were privileged enough to be members of the correct church, while all others had belonged to something else that didn’t quite measure up to the status of the Roman Catholic Church.

After all, how could it be possible that Roman Catholicism is not the one true church?

Look at what Rome has to offer: It has the priests, the nuns; the bishops; the cardinals; and of course, the Pope. They have the Sacraments; the statues; the holy water; the incense; the Stations of the Cross; the Eucharist - in which Chris supposedly physically manifests Himself into the wafer after the consecration by the priest during the Mass; the Marian apparitions—which appear mainly to Roman Catholics.

And they have the Vatican, where the Vicar of Christ (who they believe is Christ’s representative on earth), governs the faithful and makes infallible proclamations and doctrine. How can this not be the one true church? No other organization on the face of the earth comes close to offering to its flock what Rome provides for its faithful.

But, of course, to be true, one must adhere to what has been established as truth and not teach or practice what is contrary to the truth. We read in Scripture a few passages that declare what is truth and what is not. Jesus proclaimed in John 14:6:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me.”

They themselves argued over it and Jesus did not designate anyone. So, speculation is all you have.

When catholics are honest about their idolatry then they will have a chance at becoming an intellectually honest person saved.

What we have here is the typical shallow Protestant response. Rain down a few scriptural quotes from here and there and ignore the broad breadth and depth of the history of the early Church Fathers and their coherent doctrine and instead resort to acting as internet theologian.

And that's nothing like cherry picking some verse or parts of verses to support a works based, pope based religion which supports eating Jesus, and putting the opinions of men above Scripture, to be saved.

Well, if I stand condemned by Catholicism for adhering to Scripture over the "broad breadth and depth of the history of the early Church Fathers and their coherent doctrine", so be it.

I do NOT stand condemned by God for fidelity to HIS WORD.

Your eclectic views of scriptures are utterly risible because it would mean that for eleven centuries the constellation of theologians, saints, and martyrs all got it wrong.

Might doesn't make right. Neither does consensus.

Spiritual truths are spiritually discerned, not intellectually determined or understood.

SPIRITUAL TRUTHS ARE SPIRITUALLY DISCERNED

1 Corinthians 1:18-31 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written,“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.”

Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”

1 Corinthians 2:1-16 And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

Yet among the mature we do impart wisdom, although it is not a wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are doomed to pass away. But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glory. None of the rulers of this age understood this, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But, as it is written,

“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”—

these things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God. For who knows a person's thoughts except the spirit of that person, which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit, interpreting spiritual truths to those who are spiritual.

The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual person judges all things, but is himself to be judged by no one. “For who has understood the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

She gets perpetual virginity. She gets to be glorified before anyone else. She gets protected from original sin. She gets appointed Mother of the Church and Queen of Heaven. Why? Just because He loves her, and that is reason enough.

Therefore, since He did not do that for the rest of us, then God doesn't love the rest of us.

OHHHH I see, it’s a Mormon thing. So we are speaking a whole different and weird language.

Yes, a language called Mormon speak. Other works based religions use cult speak as well. It's a wonder we can get anything across to cult members, but we keep trying. 😇

The Roman Catholic Church has turned the beautiful, bless lady of Scripture into an asexual, frigid Jewish wife; who withheld her favors from Joseph for no rational reason.

Hello Mary, are you awake? 😂

Stop the lies. I grew up in the Catholic religion. It's worship.

I did too. I thought it was worship too. Maybe the priests and nuns who taught me that were wrong, but if they were wrong about that, what else were they wrong wbout? The plan of salvation maybe? ➕✖️➗➖

Yet all of that is not worship???

Absolutely correct.

Did you ever ask your mother to pray for you? DOES she pray for you? Does that make your mother God?

Do you have a photo of your mother? Do you worship it?

Have you ever kissed your mother? Is that worship?

When you asked your wife to marry you, did you get down on one knee? Did you think she was God?

Worship does not consist in gestures or words, but in an act of the intellect and will. Catholics are well aware that God is God and that Mary is a creature.

So?

Do you believe, as the gospel says, that Mary said to the angel Gabriel, “Be it done unto me according to thy word”?

In other words, Mary, by an act of HER will, made it possible for God the Son to take flesh. I.e., ALL GRACE entered the world through MARY’s willing it.

In other words, the GOSPEL teaches precisely what all those saints you quoted are saying: That the grace that comes from Jesus Christ is made available to us by the consent and cooperation of Mary.

When you can't refute truth, belittle the poster.

Sad, but typically Roman Catholic.

And that's nothing like cherry picking some verse or parts of verses to support a works based, pope based religion which supports eating Jesus, and putting the opinions of men above Scripture, to be saved.

Don't forget that this "depth and breadth of early church history" stands as the basis for CCC 841 which teaches Roman Catholics worship the same "merciful God" as Muslims... which means Catholics don't even worship the one, true living God! "Church history" is so deep and broad that it allows this teaching. But when you don't put faith in God's word as the final authority, it's what you end up with.

Great post and spot-on!

how many time have I explained to directly that any Catholic who worships Mary is AUTOMATICALLY EXCOMMUNICATED from the Catholic Church ‘Latae sententiae’ which is a Latin phrase, meaning “sentence (already) passed”, used in the canon law of the Catholic Church.

A latae sententiae penalty is one that follows ipso facto or automatically, by force of the law itself, when a law is contravened.

A penalty that binds a guilty party only after it has been imposed on the person is known as a ferendae sententiae (meaning “sentence to be passed”) penalty.[1]

The Code of Canon Law, which binds Catholics of the Latin Church, inflicts latae sententiae censures for certain forbidden actions. ‘

Worshipping an other than the Triune God is AUTOMATIC EXCOMMUNICATION.
