Quick question, Jim.
Why is it permissible to make nasty, sweeping, unfounded, bigoted characterizations of entire religious sects, but addressing the specific actions and posts of a particular writer is considered “personal,” regardless of accuracy, and gets deleted.
Does this policy not seem to be in need of review?

Debate the issues all you wish on open debate threads, but do not make it personal.

It was a joke, for goodness sake. I know your religion doesnt allow for humor, but come on. Its not Sunday yetlive a little. We're not supposed to read intent into a posting...else some run off to the moderator in a heartbeat.
But as you intended it to be a joke, it will be received in that manner.

Not ignorance. I make no apologies for the corruption and heresies of the worst years of the Holy Roman Empire. Nor will I cite some choice quotes from Luther in an attempt to deflect, since my intention is not to defend all things Roman (let alone Austrian).
I personally believe Luther was a scourge born of that Roman corruption. A chastisement, if you will, for an out of control institution willfully abusing the name and Holy Sacrifice of Our Lord. That’s just the way I see the myriad schisms and confusion of the Reformation. I think having Christendom shattered into over 40,000 pieces is a bad thing. A really bad thing. And I don’t think God chastises the whole for the actions of one. For it to come to this, I’m pretty sure all parties concerned had (and still have) something very serious to answer for.
I also believe Rome is approaching similar levels of corruption and heresy today, as are all Christian denominations. And it’s fairly obvious another chastisement is at hand. As Luther was the scourge in the 16th century, Islam will be a far greater scourge in the century ahead.
The good news is, we know from Matthew 16:18 how it ends. The gates of hell don’t prevail. But it’s going to be rough ride before it’s all said and done.

At this point, no. It’s just superfluous semantics now.

Excerpted from the Religion Forum Rules:
Unlabeled Religion Forum threads:
All other Religion Forum threads are Open by default.
Open threads are in a town square format.
Antagonism though not encouraged, should be expected
Posters may argue for or against beliefs, deities, religious authorities, etc. They may tear down others beliefs. They may ridicule. Open RF debate is often contentious.
It requires thick skin. A poster must be able to make his points while standing his ground, suffering adverse remarks about his beliefs - or letting them roll off his back.
Members of religions which are as much culture as belief sometimes take religious debate personally. If you keep getting your feelings hurt because other posters ridicule or disapprove or hate what you hold dear, then you are too thin-skinned to be involved in open RF debate. You should IGNORE open RF threads altogether and instead post to RF threads labeled prayer devotional caucus or ecumenical.

This post has a different tone than other of your posts and is one I appreciate and am in agreement.
Disagree about the comparison of Luther’s “scourge” to militant Islam, though. Above all, Luther remained what he was as long as he was permitted to be...a Roman Catholic.

Yes....ha ha. I am not that much of an ogre. While we might not see eye to eye on religion, I am confident we both love our families and our pets. Life it way, way too short to get worked up these days.
It is a spectacular Saturday and I hope you are enjoying your weekend!
To: Tao Yin
The point is that the vast majority of Lutherans are unaware of much of what Luther put his name to, yet they call themselves Lutherans anyway.
It was in response to someone calling Catholics ignorant. It wasn’t an unprovoked zinger.

The truth is Catholics do not care what you think. We will pray as we see fit. There is no need to debate this and other issues regarding the Catholic faith because you do not hear our reasoned answers. You hear only what you want and make false interpretations of what we believe. Your attitudes about our faith is no different then how liberals go after conservatives. You think you are right and no amount of debate will change your mind.
Just understand the things people like you say about Jesus's Mother, the Catholic church and all those so called zingers is one of the reasons why we do wear a scapular, pray the rosary, and other various devotions to make reparation to Jesus for the hatred shown to his Mother. How would you feel if your mother was treated so horribly. Whether you choose to acknowledge Her importance in Jesus's life or not, doesn't change who She is and the respect She deserves. The Catholic faith is one of humility. I think you miss that point.
Faithul Catholics will pray for you with the words, "Forgive them Father for they know not what they do." Pease be with you.

So slander is okay as long as its sectarian, but insight on a particular poster is verboten...got it.
I did not slander your religious sect with any untrue statements. Your insights of a particular poster were keen and perhaps valid. Yet your comments to afore-mentioned poster were all personal attacks increasing in directness. That was against forum rules. Play nicer, please. R2z

Just wondering why you capitalized the word "she" twice.
