Do you really think God would allow His Son to die a terrible, agonizing painful death?

Yes, I do believe He did.

I’m confused. Am I supposed to be the newcomer here? I joined Free Republic in 1998. So 17 years ago. If I have posted anything that has said that non-Catholics go to hell, I apologize. I don’t think I have but without going back and rereading all my posts I can’t know for sure. I grew up in a home where my mother and grandmother were not Catholics and so I’m pretty sure I never believed that they were going to hell. My mother converted to the Catholic Church at the age of 78. She didn’t have to go through RCIA because she had taken three children through the Baltimore Catechism. She made a profession of faith, was confirmed and received Communion and at the end, Last Rites. In a very cherry fashion she told the priest that she had no sins to confess and that she wasn’t going to Purgatory since she had suffered so much pain in her last year on earth. I’m pretty sure she was right on both counts.

I hope you both have a blessed Good Friday and Easter season. Thank you both for your concern for my immortal soul but daniel1212 I did learn in 8 years in Al-Anon that God doesn’t have any grandchildren. This is my relationship with Him. I hope that understanding that gives you peace.

I believe what the document, promulgated by my Church, with the Guidance of the Holy Spirit states. Heaven is open to those of good will, not just to Catholics. And, according to our teaching, both a soul's particular and General judgement will come from God. I believe. I felt negatively about " the spirit of Vatican II" until I realized there was no such thing. There are documents.

Sorry you feel as you do. I put a great deal into my replies. Thanks for, well, next to nothing. No reply necessary.

God bless you and give you peace!

No need to explain, even if you had been the newest one. Fact is, I am the newest and disapproved of the way you were spoken to. I pinged you simply because a link to your post, was for some reason put into one aimed at me, so I pinged out of courtesy to you. The Spy Wednesday post is still being harped on, and it's Good Friday. This is ridiculous and counter-productive, and I'm going on with my day. Sorry I had to ping you: for what it's worth, I was agreeing,

Have a beautiful Triduum, and may God bless you!

You completely missed my point with that question. Nevermind.

I do understand. God is just, but He is merciful. Today begins the Novena of the Divine Mercy! I also understand the pain suffered by Catholics as a result of Vatican II. Yet we once again have a Catechism, with our Baltimore still being printed.
Anthropology will admit that there are still people in areas so isolated that they have not been able to reach them. Did God create these souls only to see them perish?
Help me, pius. Are you Catholic? Do you feel VII ruined us? I’m not certain where you are coming from, and I do not wish to walk away, but to try to understand. Of you read one of my recent posts, you’ll find I have a better grip on that than you may expect. I love the Tridentine Mass, but church closings in my area eliminated most all parishes with a High Altar upon which to celebrate it. My Parish was closed- we had One every Sunday after the permission (indult?) came through...
Whatever I missed, I’m sorry, and I hope I did not offend you. May God bless you and your loved ones this Easter Season!

My sincere and heartfelt apologies, pius, that last paragraph was not intended for you: please forgive my mistake. Thank you, and may God bless you!

Thanks for, well, next to nothing. No reply necessary.

Out of context again, Elsie.

Lame excuse.

"Pagan" is name-calling, as is "cult",

Everything has a name.

I believe what the Church's translations say.

I 'believe' what the plain Word of GOD says - that book you Catholics put together.

Not to rain on anyone’s parade or anything, but the assertion that there were no priests in the earliest age of the Church is partially correct. There were bishops and deacons originally, then the Church grew too large for one bishop to serve all the people in his city (and surrounding area) so bishops began ordaining men to serve as sort of a bishop-lite for the growing number of Christian faithful.

Those are the men we call priests, they do not enjoy the fullness of holy orders and their authority and responsibilities are delegated to them by their bishops.

Meanwhile it’s the three o’clock hour where I live, may God have mercy on us for what we have done.

Yes, I am Catholic and yes, I do think Vatican II was a huge mistake because of the theological contradictions I have already mentioned. Having said that, I don’t think this is the time to get into that. Have a blessed Easter.

Good point. But aren't bishops also priests?

Meanwhile it’s the three o’clock hour where I live, may God have mercy on us for what we have done.

Yes.

"It doesn't matter what I think."

So the big spaces, use of blinding color, persistent capitalization (shouting), repetitive keywords, distracting graphics, butting in to questions intended for others, sidebars, answering questions with other questions, and giant capitals are in the posts because...?
