Judge Censors Bible for Public Preaching [UK]

A Christian street preacher has been convicted of a Public Order offence for using the wrong Bible verse in a public conversation with a man who identifies as homosexual, reports Christian Concern for our Nation.

But the preacher was acquitted of two other Public Order charges.

Unusual judgment

In a highly unusual judgment, Michael Overd, who regularly preaches on the streets of Taunton, was told by the Judge that he should not have referred to Leviticus chapter 20 to make his point but clearly indicated that he could have used chapter 18 of the book.

District Judge Shamim Ahmed Qureshi found that Mr Overd could have pointed to Leviticus 18:22 which describes homosexual practice as an 'abomination' but that reference to Leviticus 20:13 was inappropriate because the chapter refers to the death penalty.

Mr Overd points out that in his use of Leviticus 20 he never referred to the death penalty. "I am being punished for words that never passed my lips," he commented.

During my lifetime the UK has gone a long way downhill, and now the remnants are swirling down the drain. Merrie Olde England is no more. Sad.

“District Judge Shamim Ahmed Qureshi”

Maybe he should have quoted from the Koran instead?

In another highly unusual aspect of the case, a Somerset newspaper reported the Police accusing Mr Overd of “being hostile” to people and encouraged members of the public to record Mr Overd if they felt that he was making “offensive remarks”.

However, a number of the witnesses interviewed in connection with Mr Overd's case said they cannot remember what was said or when it was said. One of the eyewitnesses, Nigel Marley, said in a statement that he was “unable to recall exactly what phrases he was using, but it was clear to me that it was homophobic.”

So the police were out to get this evangelical preacher and members of the public don't want to perjure themselves but are still willing to testify that the preacher is homophobic even if they can't be sure what he said. After all all Christians are homophobic by nature.

Maybe he is a Coptic, I learned recently that a person with an Arabic name (jawahir) is actually new to my congregation, Christian all the way.

And he didn’t even read the actual chapter which talked about why adultery, incest, and homosexual behavior was bad.

Beside the bible.. logic and rational thinking ..and just questioning...is under attack... let me give you an example...

Question:
Is Sex rational?...is the sexual impulse a necessary component built into human beings if so what is its fundamental primary purpose?

Now in the context of the question above

Are heterosexual impulses rational?

Are homosexual impulses rational?

Are asking any of these questions to be considered hate speech?

When authorities outlaw questioning, only outlaws will ask questions.....

Today it seems applies to a lot of things like gay, global warming, etc....

Because the left once it's in power always starts outlawing questioning....it's the mark of the fascist

funny I was not thinking about Orwell at all

Just writing the truth as i saw it off the top of my head

But writing the truth you see these days comes out sounding Orwellian...

And that’s Orwellian in and of itself

Ahhhh, so now pastors need to get judicial approval before quoting scripture. Does this apply to the muslims in England too? What is it that they recommend for homosexuals? Isn’t it death by stoning?

Actually Orwell was thinking of England in 1948It is hard now to grasp how totally regimented and deflated the English people by the events of 1940-1947. When he designated the leader of that time as “Big Brother” he was amusing himself by thinking of someone who personally was the very opposite of Lord Attlee, someone more like Churchill, but the actually personality did not matter. What mattered was the nature of the regime.
