Vatican Cardinal to German Bishops: We Can’t Adapt Faith to Times Like Christians Under The Nazis

ROME, March 26, 2015 (LifeSiteNews.com) – An influential Swiss cardinal at the Vatican has warned Germany’s bishops that the Church cannot merely adapt itself to the times as some Christians did in order to support the Nazis.

In an interview with the German Catholic newspaper Die Tagespost, Cardinal Kurt Koch firmly (but politely) refuted the proposal of Cardinal Reinhard Marx and Bishop Franz-Josef Bode, both delegates to the upcoming Synod on the Family, that the Catholic Church has to adjust herself more to the “life realities” of Catholics today, and liberalize its attitude toward remarried divorcees. Cardinal Marx had even declared that the German bishops will make their pastoral decisions independently of Rome.

Cardinal Koch’s comments followed a strong rebuke of Cardinal Marx by German Cardinal Paul Josef Cordes. “A Cardinal cannot easily separate the pastoral approach from the teaching,” Cardinal Cordes said, “unless he wants to ignore the binding meaning of Christ's words and the binding words of the Council of Trent.”

Cardinal Koch, president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, said that Bode's words should remind us of a similar historical situation: namely the time of the Third Reich, where the “German Christians” adjusted their faith to the worldview of National Socialism, namely its racist and nationalistic ideas. He said: “Let us think of the 'German Christians' during the time of National Socialism, when, next to the Holy Scripture, they also raised up the Nation and the Race as sources of revelation, against which the Theological Declaration of Barmen (1934) [which rejected the submission of the Protestant churches under the state] protested. We have to differentiate very carefully here and listen with sensitivity to the signs of the times – and to the spirit that reveals itself in these signs: Which ones are signs of the........”

...Cardinal Reinhard Marx and Bishop Franz-Josef Bode, both delegates to the upcoming Synod on the Family,..

There's the crux. Why have both of these bishops been invited to the SinNod and why is the former still in Francis' Gang o' Nine?

I'm going to stick my neck out here and say it was set up that way so that the dissenters can have the fullest possible "say," and emboldened by their perceived power, thus reveal the depth of their apostasy and be well and truly refuted.

Why were Arians invited to Nicaea?

Well, at that time, St. Nicholas was also invited to Nicea. And we all know what he did to Arius.

Yet this time, a great defender of the Catholic Faith, Cardinal Burke, has not been re-invited.

Long rope, short branch just won’t cut it.

Either that or you're whistling past the graveyard.

We'll see, won't we?

St. Nicholas, pray for us!

But weren't they all already fully exposed to Pope Francis at the first SinNod? Since then, have any heads rolled besides Burke's?

Is not the heretic, Cardinal Balderserri, again leading the follow-up Sin-Nod of Sodomy?

Weren't Baldisseri, Marx and Kasper exposed by their own presumptuous blunders as racists and liars, and good grief, postal thieves?

And isn't Burke free of ANY supervisory constraints, free with the time, the money, the international connections and the patronage of the Knights of Malta, to influence every member of the upcoming Synod? Do you think he lacks the ability, the inclination, or the means?

Watch and pray. Looks like a classic coming up.

The LORD told Gideon, "With these 300 men I will rescue you and give you victory ... I will deliver the whole army and I will hand Midian over to you."

Thank you for your energizing, inspiring, motivating, faith-hope-love filled, infallible pessimism.

But some of us know where to find what we're looking for.

Yes, they were. So why does Francis still keep them in good favor? Everyone of those sob's should have been reprimanded, punished and silenced. Yet, they're still running the "show" that Francis has enthusiastically initiated.

I don't know if you've been reading the extracts from the pope's recent sermons, but they all focus on unconditional mercy for everyone and constant criticism of "doctors of the law".

“the Church cannot merely adapt itself to the times “

Sure it can. Every tradition had its day one. Keep at something long enough and it ranks right up there with scripture.

Time to invoke Godwin's Law ...

Cardinal Secretary of State, Eugenio Pacelli (later to become Pope Pius XII) signs the Concordat between Nazi Germany and the Vatican at a formal ceremony in Rome on 20 July 1933. Nazi Vice-Chancellor Franz von Papen sits at the left, Pacelli in the middle, and the Rudolf Buttmann sits at the right. The Concordat effectively legitimized Hitler and the Nazi government to the eyes of Catholicism, Christianity, and the world.

Archbishop Cesare Orsenigo, head of the Diplomatic Corps, attending the Nuremburg Party Rally in September 1933. According to Dr. Paul O'Shea, Orsenigo, as Dean of the Corps, it was the Nuncio's role to lead the Corps at all major government functions. After 1935 Orsenigo did not attend major government propaganda displays.

Welcome Celebration for Bishop Konrad Graf von Preysing in the Sportpalast, Berlin, 8 Sept. 1935. Note the Catholic Chi-Rho Cross to the right of the Nazi flag. Chi and Rho are the first two letters of the Greek word for Christ. The Chi Rho Cross, or warrior's cross, originated from the monogram of Roman Emperor Constantine. Following the death of Berlin's Bishop Bares, Pope Pius XI unexpectedly selects Konrad Graf von Preysing, a little-known Eichstatt bishop, as bishop of Berlin. Berlin, the region for which he is responsible, now also includes the center of the National Socialist power structure and so requires a high degree of political skill from its ecclesiastical leader.

Catholic Service for Nazis

Mass meeting of the German Christian Movement 13 Nov.1933 A radical wing of German Lutheranism and the main Protestant branch supporting Nazi ideology, the German Christian Movement reconciled Christian doctrine with German nationalism and antisemitism.

The Deutsche Christen (DC) became the voice of Nazi ideology within the Evangelical Church (the Religious Right of their day) and approved by Hitler. They proposed a church "Aryan paragraph" to prevent "non-Aryans" from becoming ministers or religious teachers. Most church leaders solidly supported the "Judenmission." Only a very few number of Christians opposed Nazism such as the "Confessing Christians" (a Church movement not recognized by the Protestant orthodoxy) headed by Dietrich Bonhoeffer. The support of Nazism by the majority of German Christians and German Christian leaders shows the danger of mixing religion with government.

SA storm troopers with placards of the "German Christians," Berlin, July 1933. On July 14, 1933, Hitler's government approves a new charter for the Protestant church. With massive intervention by the NSDAP, the church elections scheduled only a short time later result in a resounding victory for the "German Christians." Hitler himself appeals to all Protestant Christians in a radio speech on the eve of the election to vote for the "German Christians." With its slogan "church must remain church,"

National Bishop Friedrich Coch giving a Hitler greeting in Dresden, 10 December 1933 Dresden pastor Friedrich Coch is one of the leading men of the "German Christians" in Saxony. The NSDAP's Gau consultant for church matters since 1932, he is elected to the office of state bishop by the "Brown Synod" in August 1933.

By that logic, Pope Francis has concomitantly revealed "the depth of his apostasy".
