Cardinal Sarah: "Detachment of doctrine and pastoral practice is Heresy."
Rorate-caeli ^ | February 20, 2015

French publishing house Fayard is publishing a book with an interview with one of the most impressive Cardinals in the College, the recently-named Prefect for Divine Worship, Cardinal Robert Sarah. "Either God or Nothing" (Dieu ou rien) has the very interesting subtitle "Entretien sur la foi" (Conversation on faith), which certainly calls to mind the groundbreaking book-interview of another Cardinal published three decades ago -- Rapporto sulla fede (Report on the Faith, published in English as... The Ratzinger Report).

From its presentation by French magazine Famille Chrétienne, we find the following remarkable extract of Cardinal Sarah's words on a concept that is absolutely central in the current debates initiated from the very top of the hierarchy that is shredding the Church in pieces:

"The idea that would consist in placing the Magisterium in a nice box by detaching it from pastoral practice -- which could evolve according to the circumstances, fads, and passions -- is a form of heresy, a dangerous schizophrenic pathology. I affirm solemnly that the Church of Africa will firmly oppose every rebellion against the teaching of Christ and the Magisterium."

_____________
Tip: Yves Daoudal, who notes that the first book cover that the publisher had made public included a preface by Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI (see below), a preface that disappeared in the actual book (hence no mention in the new book cover...) Very curious...

I must not be the only person who does a double take when s/he sees a headline that begins “Cardinal Sarah”...

“The idea that would consist in placing the Magisterium in a nice box by detaching it from pastoral practice — which could evolve according to the circumstances, fads, and passions.” And thus the Roman Catholic church would follow the Episcopal and mainline Protestant churches into oblivion.

It is not good that it does that, but it is also not good that the old mainline Protestant churches have already done so.

Especially since he’s not only male but also blacker than black. He’s from Guinea and is a great leader. I think we will definitely hear more from him.

Cdl Burke has practically been exterminated, but I’m not sure they’d dare to do the same with Cdl Sarah.

One liberal German Cardinal’s racism led to appointment of conservitive black Cardinals to high positions.

God works in mysterious ways.

The Church may yet be saved all due to one reporter hitting “record”.

I am very, very weak -— incredibly weak —— but hope to be walking by Easter. Upheld by the prayers of so many, many saints. The Lord our God is good.

Why do FRoman Catholics keep dragging Protestants into their Caucus threads? Can’t y’all have a conversation without trying to drag us through the mud?

From this FR Protestant’s view, the mainline Protestant churches have descended to the mud of accepting homosexual clergy, and many other fads and will probably be officiating “marriages” of same sex couples. Some Protestant churches, such as Baptist have resisted, and I am glad they have.

Are you suggesting that Catholic churches have not??? Isn't this what the article's about???

"The idea that would consist in placing the Magisterium in a nice box by detaching it from pastoral practice -- which could evolve according to the circumstances, fads, and passions -- is a form of heresy, a dangerous schizophrenic pathology. I affirm solemnly that the Church of Africa will firmly oppose every rebellion against the teaching of Christ and the Magisterium."

They got some Catholics who want to evolve into open queerness and everything that goes with that while somehow keeping the magisterium pure???

They've unofficially got that already...

Mrs. Don-o? Yes! We have missed your posts!! I had added prayers for your healing to my rosary intercession requests, including on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes.

“...drag us through the mud...”

Commenting on how the mainline Protestant Churches are handling an issue is actually a sign that how they are dealing with things is worth discussing. There is not an attack or criticism intended.
