Mr Tawfiq said: "It's not that I went looking for Islam. Islam came looking for me.
"I loved my former life and my work, but now I've found a peace that I never knew before."
Mr Tawfiq explained that he made the decision to leave the priesthood when he realised how lonely he was.
"I left my job, but not the Catholic religion," he said.
"I had no intention of changing my faith. That wasn't part of the plan at all."
"My Christian faith slid away slowly and Islam became more and more important.
"I play down my Catholic priesthood, but all I have is great love in my heart for the people who made me what I am."

He sounds like one of those people who don't really believe anything, so he keeps changing his religion.
My wife used to work with a prof at a university who changed his religion several times. At one point he was a protestant, then changed to catholic, then back to protestant, and last I heard, he was Jewish. When he told his wife he wanted to keep kosher, it led to a divorce.
One day a student left him some eggrolls to eat. He was just about to eat one, when he realized that now that he was Jewish, he could not eat pork. I told my wife he should have just converted back to Christianity long enough to eat the eggrolls, and then back to Judaism when he was finished.

sarc Now, now... according the Catechism of the Catholic Cul...er Church, it's okay -- remember? Catholics and Mohammedans seek and worship the same God. We're the ones out in the cold... /sarc

As a Roman Catholic Priest he would have been baptized, so you still count him as Catholic don’t you?

Well, like I said, being they both consider they serve the same god forth and back or back and forth doesn’t make much difference does it.

I read a book written by a Catholic priest who converted to the LDS faith. It lasted a few years. Once he found out more about the details of their belief system, he came back home.

Now that's funny right there!! The Catholic Church teaches they all serve the same god so they make an ex Muslim a priest and then the priest/Muslim goes back. After all, Catholic Church says they are the same god.

“The Devil has him.”
That was my thought, too, and all I did was read the headline.

Idris Tawfiq is a Muslim revert. Link please. He may have been, but without solid evidence all we know is that he is, uhh, was, one of yours.
Oh, generally speaking in Islam there are no converts. They claim everyone who joins to be reverts.

I am hardly shocked. There are plenty more like him in Roman Catholicism. Met some.

well, the islamgod may give a crap about you but you have to be dead to know if he does or not. and then, he may like you, or hate you, and it can have nothing to do with how devout a muslim you were.
