I agree, he just feels he needs to fill dead air space, or something.

Now,now. This is the man, according to our Catholic brethren, God chose to lead his church. This man also has the ability to interpret scripture for the unwashed masses don’t you know

And don't they have thing about papal infallibility?

What Pope Francis really said for those who won't look it up.

Pope strongly defends Catholic teaching against contraception

Manila, Philippines • Pope Francis issued his strongest defense yet of church teaching opposing artificial contraception, using a Friday rally in Asia's largest Catholic nation to urge families to be "sanctuaries of respect for life."

Francis also denounced the corruption that has plagued the Philippines for decades and urged officials to instead work to end its "scandalous" poverty and social inequalities during his first full day in Manila, where he received a rock star's welcome at every turn.

"Be sanctuaries of respect for life, proclaiming the sacredness of every human life from conception to natural death," Francis exhorted the crowd. "What a gift this would be to society if every Christian family lived fully its noble vocation."

Francis also urged families to be on guard against what he called "ideological colonization," an apparent reference to gay marriage, which isn't legal in the Philippines. The church opposes gay marriage, holding that marriage is only between man and wife.

I think Catholics have been using various methods of birth control for a long time. Of all the Catholics I know, none have more than three kids, and most have only two.

Do you know about Natural Family Planning? It is NOT birth control, but self control.

I know about it and had my first two children while practicing it :)

IMO, NFP is pretty much the same thing as birth control because then we, not God, determine how many children He should bless us with.

I think the multiple caesarians might be safer for the doctor than the mother. The threat of fewer lawsuits is a LOT safer.

But ow many times can a woman handle the incisions and being cut open at the same place? It used to be said (by docs) that 3 caesareans was pretty much the max.

That’s only one beyond what they traditionally said was safe, and I imagine she was young, fit, and healthy, so would be an appropriate exception to the rule. God bless both of you and your five kids.

Not young, over 35 for first. 43 for the last one. Not especially fit, though not dying.

Last child saved her life. If she hadn’t had him, she wouldn’t have had her last mammogram which showed a cancer. So early that she underwent removal and reconstruction and didn’t need any other treatment.

See, they call it practicing medicine for a reason. They make educated guesses. Most with one eye on your health, one on your wallet and another on the plaintiff attorneys.

It has. These are his words. This has nothing to do with the particular news organization taking things out of context (although that continues to be the go-to excuse).

It’s also reiterating Vatican II theology.

Y'DON'T WIN A WAR BY DEPLETING YOUR RANKS ... YOU PROMOTE THE ONES IN SERVICE AND RECRUIT NEW ONES

We do not win the war - He does when He returns. If we could win the war, He would not need to return and would not have had to die on the Cross for us.

Consistency in message is preferable to clashing sects/interpretations of what folks think God's Plan is - opinions and pride in one's religion does more for the Evil One that it does for God's desire to have His Word carried to every soul.

I really do appreciate your reply, but I feel it is somewhat misguided in that, I was not attempting to be theological but strategic.

If I applied all of my independent, fundamental Baptist attitude to all of my consciousness and language ... I'd be in a pulpit.

Very interesting.

I have seen people blasted by the Catholic Freepers for saying the same thing.

Of course, the same people will now defend it.

IF his statements are translated correctly, this is a major shift.
