Column: Church needs patience, humility in light of same-sex marriage
Tampa Bay Times ^ | 1/6/15 | Bishop Robert N. Lynch

Posted on 01/07/2015 1:14:38 PM PST by BlatherNaut

"...However, together with Pope Francis and in light of the discussions at the recent Extraordinary Synod on the Family held in Rome, I also recognize that the reality of the family today, in all its complexities, presents the church with pastoral challenges as the church strives to accept people in the specific circumstances of their lives and support and encourage them in their search for God and their desire to be members of the church.

Therefore, I do not wish to lend our voice to notions which might suggest that same-sex couples are a threat incapable of sharing relationships marked by love and holiness and, thus, incapable of contributing to the edification of both the church and the wider society..."

Bishop Lynch equates perverted relationships with "holiness".

---------------

From Renew America: "...In addition to reporting on the Lynch-Urbanski story, the St. Petersburg Times and the Tampa Tribune were looking into rumors of Bishop Lynch's intimate relationship with bachelor David Herman, a contractor who had moved from Fort Lauderdale to St. Petersburg with Lynch when he was installed as bishop. The two men had vacationed together in Hawaii, San Francisco, Key West, Bermuda, Israel and Rome, sometimes accompanied by Urbanski.

Herman had several things in common with Urbanski, one of them being that both men were triathletes. In March 2000, all three men, that is Herman, Urbanski and Lynch went to West Palm Beach for a weekend. Urbanski said the bishop pressured him to go. When they got to their hotel, Urbanski said that Lynch made him take a steam bath together. Herman, who joined the two men said that Urbanski clearly did not want to be there.

Urbanski said that when Lynch began to make sexual overtures towards him, he tried to avoid the bishop as much as possible. "I tried to avoid him as the years progressed, without him getting mad at me. I couldn't have him mad at me. It was a tough day at work if he was mad at me, yet I couldn't leave. He went as far as to tell me how to wear my hair. If I got my hair cut, he would say, 'Oh, Bill. You need to grow your hair back. It's not a flattering haircut for you.'" He said that when he and Bishop Lynch traveled together the bishop always insisted on sharing rooms, and sometimes appeared naked from the shower...."

Bishop Lynch. That figures. The one who had to settle a sexual harassment suit against a male employee, the one who forbade priests to visit Terri Schiavo or to protest her killing, the one who put an end to Eucharistic Adoration...wow, he’s really somebody whose thoughts I care about!

I never understood why he wasn’t removed from his position. But both BXVI and JPII were way too cautious in dealing with these people. Francis, on the other hand, has no qualms about removing people who are “too traditional” or “conservative,” although there is usually some other public pretext.

Shocking for a "spiritual leader" to equate love with perverse sexual deviancy and "acceptance of same-sex" anything with being "humble!"

Shameful, completely anti-biblical, anti-Christian and an immoral cowardly acceptance of what God says is an abomination!

Bishop Lynch needs to read again the scripture that tells him to care more about being "approved of by God rather than being approved by man."

No we don’t. We know their end goal isn’t just getting about getting gay marriage legalalized; it’s to bring all the filftht and perversion right along with. They want to be able to have sex with anything, marry anything, legalize polygamy, incest, pedophelia, etc. it’s an all out assault against Christianity and the family unit. They would just as soon crawl into bed with a boy as a man. There are no limits to their depravity.

And even Pedophilia!

Exactly what would be the moral standing to oppose any of those things if this isnt stood up against?

God judges such acts as an “abomination,” whether the so-called “church” sells out or not.

No. They need truth and love, in that order. “ Love” without truth is really hate.

Speaking as a church going Catholic “gay” marriage is a Mortal SIN! If a bishop indorses it he has committed a Mortal SIN.IF the Pope where to cave in to social pressure and do the same He will face the same judgment, EXCEPT on a bigger scale.

...presents the church with pastoral challenges

A shepherds' duty is to care for and protect the flock. Yet this bishop's flock is being shepherded by a wolf!

Brings to mind Paul's instructions in Acts 20 to the elders (aka bishops, pastors, presbyters) of the church in Ephesus:

"Take heed unto yourselves, and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit hath made you bishops, to feed the church of the Lord which he purchased with his own blood. I know that after my departing grievous wolves shall enter in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them."

This wolf has been up to no good for quite a while, yet has managed to hang on to his position despite his destructive behavior. He and his ilk have been emboldened by the Pope Francis Synod, and are now oozing back out of the closet and into the media spotlight.

And if some non-Catholics church leader were espousing these very same things, we’d be hearing no end to the comments about where the *heresy* of Protestantism leads one.

But when it’s the Catholic church.......

The crickets can get pretty loud and all we hear is that it’s STILL the OTC and the gates of hell won’t prevail against it.

They’ve been prevailing against Catholicism for close to 1600 years now, since its inception.

In other news today, Archbishop Wenski of Miami says..."Support Same Sex Marriage Lose Your Job".

One Church....two bishops with opposing messages.

Not surprisingly, the homosexual activist organization Human Rights Campaign asks.....Which of These Catholic Voices Represents the Church’s Stance on Gay Couples? (Lynch's or Wenski's?)

Which, indeed?

The lavender gang are making their end run, as seen at the recent Extraordinary Synod. A split is coming.

Agree. It's also evident at the diocesan and parish level.
