The newly-elected Chinese Christian governor of Indonesias capital city, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, is finding new allies in Jakartas influential Muslim leaders, reports MNN.
Mr. Purnama, who goes by Ahok, reflects an acceptance of diversity agenda being put forth by the newly-elected President and former gubernatorial running mate, Joko Widodo.
Hes referred to as a double-minority because hes ethnic Chinese, which is a minority in Indonesia, and hes also Christian, notes John Bachman of the Haggai Institute.
Given the fact that Indonesia has a very large Muslim population, there are some leaders that have been very vocal [about], This is not the kind of leader that we need for Jakarta.'
Ahok met a great deal of opposition from Islamic hard-liners when he was announced as the citys leader last month. Earlier this month, a spokesman for one fundamentalist group claimed, We reject Ahoks leadership. He does not represent Jakartas residents.
We will elect a new governor who cares about Islam and its citizens, not Ahok.
Leaders of large Muslim groups in Jakarta are now slamming the hard-liners efforts to stir up public unrest against the governor.
The majority of Jakartans and Indonesians are accepting of the values of democracy, says one Islamic leader.
We want to continue to promote pluralism and to limit any violent actions like this. [The Islamic Defenders Front], so far, is only spreading hatred among religious followers and races.

There is a great hope that with the new president, and this new governor, there will be increased dialogue and respect for Christians, notes Bachman.
There are ‘isms’ wrapped into enigmas braided into a niche.
In other words, I wish him luck, standing hip deep in all that ‘diversity’.
I like the sound of that. I have seen it happen here and there. St. Francis at peace amongst all manner of beast.
There is no way Ahok will be allowed to live out his term. Zero chance. You heard it here first.

Sure! List is getting very long.
I doubt he makes it out this year.
From Wikipedia: Christianity in Indonesia is the country's second-largest religion, after Islam.
About 7% of the population of Indonesia are Protestants, 3% are Catholics, with around 86% Muslims.
Whhhhhaaaaa?!?! A CHINESE-CHRISTIAN governor in MUSLIM Indonesia?
Now I have seen EVERYTHING!
God CERTAINLY works in mysterious ways.
IMAGINE the corruption from the erstwhile Indonesian government for a Chinese person to get elected.
IMAGINE the corruption from the erstwhile Muslim government for a Christian to get elected.
Ahok got elected for a reason. We WILL eventually see it.
Maybe Flight QZ8501, from Indonesia, that went missing on Sunday in bad weather, was the LAST STRAW that "broke the camel's back" for Indonesia. Who knows?
I hope Ahok lives to be 110.
I hope he lives to, but political Islam outside of Indonesia isn’t going to let this pass. There is too much at stake, and they absolutely cannot afford a success. Doubtful he makes it out of 2015.
"Political Islam" really doesn't give a rats about much beyond its own bailiwick. The reason bin Laden left his homeland of Saudi Arabia was because his own government promised him a HEAD CHOPPING if he showed his ugly face in the KSA again.
He went to the Sudan first, I think, then to Pakistan. Pakistan (Pak=pure; stan=land; Pakistan, land of the pure) was delighted to welcome a wealthy and very angry Saudi ahole. Pakistan was supposed to be OUR friend over there. Hah.
bin Laden's family was wealthy, powerful and well connected but that didn't buy him ONE SECOND of grace from the executioner in his OWN homeland.
You see, "Islam" didn't translate even from Saudi Arabia to Pakistan. Each country has its own agenda and to heck with anyone else...Muslim OR Christian.
