Not every definition of ‘Jew’ necessitates orthodoxy/practicing-Judaism. An ethnic Jew could be an atheist.

Altman’s claim to be identifiable as a Jew after four generations of non-practicing Jews seems very unlikely to be true. It is possible to be be an atheist Jew, but the Jewishness almost always disappears in a generation or two unless someone returns to practicing Judaism along the way.

I’d guess he is actually merely an agnostic with a few Jewish ancestors - a South American John Kerry.

Right. Not only was Jesus not socialist—socialism advocates exactly the opposite of what Christ preached.

In teaching us to give to the poor, Christ means giving of our own volition. When a third party forces us with violence to give to a recipient of that party’s choosing, it deprives us of the gift of giving because we’re not making a moral choice.

Choice is the essence of Christian belief. Violent coercion is its opposite. The honest socialist with the mind to perceive this point will have the opportunity for real self -criticism.
