Is Prayer/Veneration/Worship to Mary Biblical?
self | 12-14-14 | ealgeone

The reason for this article is to determine if the worship/veneration given to Mary by the catholic church is justified from a Biblical perspective. This will be evaluated using the Biblical standard and not man’s standard.

Refute what? You are the one who made the claim. You defend it.

you really believe Mary was without sin? Would you be so kind as to post the scripture that references that?

I am trying (as best I can) to get back to what the ORIGINAL Apostles said and meant, NOT traditions and false teachings of their co-called "successors."

There was a reason the Reformation occurred...and it is funny that the Protestant Reformation was followed by a Catholic Reformation.

Unchanging indeed.

We ask Mary to prayerfully intervene with the Son in our behalf as she is blessed with all that is good and merciful in mankind.

Y’all just can’t decide if you like Luther or not, now can you?

If he is pro-Mary he is great.

If he is pro-Sola Gratia you can’t stand him.

“Our communion with those in heaven, provided that it is understood in the fuller light of faith according to its genuine nature, in no way weakens, but conversely, more thoroughly enriches the latreutic worship we give to God the Father, through Christ, in the Spirit.

I have not yet understood if the Catholic`s actually worship Mary or if they are just accused of it, some deny it, others admit it and still others say they deny it and then say they don`t deny it.

So I will stay away from that part.

My question is about Mary and other Christian saints being in heaven, the only resurrection we know of is when Jesus was resurrected, I personally believe 144000 went with Jesus, which was the first resurrection.

Romans 8
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

Being glorified is what happened with Jesus at the resurrection so the people above would have to have been resurrected to be glorified.

I cor 15
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at his coming.

Rev 14
These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. 5And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.

I believe it is plainly telling us that 144000 of the old testament people were conformed to the image of Christ and went with Jesus.

If there has been any one resurrected since then it would have to be on the last day, so if the last day is a thousand year day as peter said in 2 peter 3:8

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Jesus said he would come for those who believed at the last day.

So if any of the Christian Saints are in heaven we must surely be living in that last day, and I believe we are.

I am making this statement in response to anybody and nobody.

I am a devout Catholic.

I am happy that some of the non-Catholic Christians care about the final disposition of my immortal soul.

I understand that Catholics and non-Catholic Christians have different customs.

I understand that non-Catholic Christians question some of the practices and traditions and customs of Catholics, and vice-versa.

I am really sick of non-Catholic Christians bashing Catholics and vice-versa.

Please, just pray for all Christians and allow God to do the rest.

There are too many people willing to cut off your head because you profess belief in Christ Our Savior: we therefore shouldn’t be at each other’s throats because we have differing views on the deatils of Christian worship.

Scripture is not their go to source anyway so I don’t suppose scripture is all that important to them.

Why bother asking your friends, neighbors, and fellow church goers to pray for you.

Because the Bible supports the practice: Praying for others.

Is there similar scriptural support for praying to Mary, angels and passed Christians? No there isn't.

That would disobey God's instructions for us to correct error we see in others teaching.

Christ’s command was first and foremost to love one another.

It was His second command, the first was to love God. How that is demonstrated with prayers to other being is unclear.

again weak “brought forth her firstborn son” “her firstborn son” is a title conveying inheritance and does not indicate there was a “second born son”.

if you check out the greek words used for son in this passage and then for son in John 3:16 you will see the difference.

don't have time to post it right now, but will later.

Luke Chapter 1

Announcement of the Birth of Jesus.

* 26In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town of Galilee called Nazareth, 27to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgin’s name was Mary.l

28And coming to her, he said, “Hail, favored one! The Lord is with you.”m 29But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered what sort of greeting this might be.

30Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31n Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. 32o He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High,* and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, 33and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”p

34But Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I have no relations with a man?”* 35And the angel said to her in reply, “The holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God.q

36And behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived* a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren; 37for nothing will be impossible for God.”r

38Mary said, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” Then the angel departed from her.

Mary Visits Elizabeth. 39During those days Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, 40where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.

41When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the holy Spirit,s 42cried out in a loud voice and said, “Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.t 43And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord* should come to me? 44For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.

45Blessed are you who believed* that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.”u

The Canticle of Mary. 46v And Mary said:*

“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;w
47my spirit rejoices in God my savior.x
48For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness;
behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed.y

49The Mighty One has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.z
50His mercy is from age to age
to those who fear him.a
51He has shown might with his arm,
dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart.b
52He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones
but lifted up the lowly.c
53The hungry he has filled with good things;
the rich he has sent away empty.d
54He has helped Israel his servant,
remembering his mercy,e
55according to his promise to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his descendants forever.”f
56Mary remained with her about three months and then returned to her home.

Luther was a Catholic. None of Luther’s personal opinions about Mary passed scriptural muster and as a result, none appear in any of the confessional documents of Lutheranism. Because Confessional Lutherans worship and serve God, not a man, not even one so mightily used by God as Luther.
