Join the Catholic Church and Go to Hell

I recently had a few young men looking to join the Catholic Church. Their math teacher told them that if they join the Catholic Church, they'll go to Hell.

There were four generations of true followers of The Way before the catholic church was founded or even thought of.

2Peter 1:20 tells us that the prophecy in the word of God is not open to any interpretation by anyone.

The word of God is to be read and believed, not to be interpreted.

My wife’s Catholic. I go to mass with her periodically, and support her faith. I’m Buddhist (Tibetan) for 25 years, raised Methodist, earned God and Country Award with the Boy Scouts, read the entire Bible formally three times and still browse it from time to time, and am likely more conversant with it than most Christians. I am mostly sympathetic to the Christian religious tradition, and well aware of its importance on this web site and within the conservative community altogether:

Concerning this type of interdenominational nonsense, I’d like to politely request that folks knock it off. Attack me if you must, but leave each other alone. Sheesh!

You guys always leave out verse 63.
John 6:63

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

If you were at all ‘conversant’ with the word of God, you would most certainly not be declaring yourself Buddhist.

Happy sun worshiping!

How often do you eat the bread of Mithras?

How often do you make the symbol of his points?

Have you had your firstborn pass through the fire?

That is what christmas is.

When the Jews recoil in disgust from Jesus' teaching, he doesn't say "Hey, it's okay, I'm just talking about faith". No, he ratchets it up ... "for my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink". Then, after the crowds leave, he doesn't corner the disciples and say, "You guys understand I'm just talking about faith, right?" No, he says, "Will you, too, go away?"

Actually, He does.

John 6:59-69

Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this said, “This is a difficult statement; who can listen to it?”

61But Jesus, conscious that His disciples grumbled at this, said to them, “Does this cause you to stumble?

62“What then if you see the Son of Man ascending to where He was before?

63“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.

64“But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who it was that would betray Him.

65And He was saying, “For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him from the Father.”

66As a result of this many of His disciples withdrew and were not walking with Him anymore.

67So Jesus said to the twelve, “You do not want to go away also, do you?”

68Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.

69“We have believed and have come to know that You are the Holy One of God.”

You see, it's always been about faith in Christ and always will be about faith in Christ. The message of faith and repentance is what was proclaimed by Christ, Paul, Peter and the whole NT.

and are utterly incapable of recognizing when a person in public life is wicked—and will, indeed, see the wickedest of them as “saviors” and “messiahs.”

Yes, while I do not believe the Obungler is the anti Christ of the book of Revelation, he is evil nonetheless. I do, however, think the same principle you describe, will happen in the end times as well. Many people will think the beast is a saviour. Here is a brain teaser question for you. Since no one knows when the second coming of Christ will be, including Satan, do you think it is possible that Satan has been preparing an anti Christ for every generation since the first coming? I think there have been more than enough evil people, who would be willing to do Satan's bidding. Your thoughts?

I recall a MAD parody of MASH, a show that I secretly detested, where the chaplain was wearing a cross and a star of David at the same time on his lapels. Someone axed him why (keep in mind this is a parody of a the Alan Alda show) and he said "So I can ridicule both religions at the same time!"

I thought that was very cool. I always enjoyed MAD.

I'm mystified by that sentence.

I'm mystefied by the term "Catholic Christian." I've heard people call themselves that before but no idea what it means. Was a pretty popular term around these parts for awhile, along with the term "Charismatic Catholic" ... again, no idea what that meant either.

At the Last Supper, what did Jesus take in his hands, tell the apostles that they were his body and blood, and then give to them, telling them to do the same thing in the future?

There is no hell! And I do not care what the Christian perversion of God’s Torah says. You will find no mention of an everlasting hell ANYWHERE in Torah or the writings of the prophets. It is all a scare tactic.

That’s an interesting theory. I.e., that Satan has prepared many for the role of anti-Christ, for insurance. (Just as the Saudis groomed eight young men for the White House, and murdered the other seven when Hussein made it.)

It’s entirely credible.

Theologians have a category: “perfect possession.” This is the case of people who, because their own will is thoroughly wicked, are demonically possessed, but experience no internal conflict or distress. The people who experience possession as distressing are “imperfectly possessed” and seek a remedy.

The anti-Christ will be a perfectly possessed person, who, as an effect of the possession will in fact have “supernatural” powers. (Not actually supernatural, because demons are not supernatural—they are creatures, and therefore part of nature.) Imperfectly possessed people speak dead languages, levitate, produce vomit and feces out of nothing (i.e., without having eaten anything), etc. The perfectly possessed do not do these things because it would interfere with their careers of deception. It wouldn’t go over big on the House or Senate floor.

Joining the Catholic or any other man made, man sustained Church will not save anyone from Hell.

Jesus was the man who started the Catholic church...O.K. by me.

There was bread and wine. When he broke the bread he told them to do this in remembrance of Me. He noted “this cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.” He’s talking bout the sacrifice he’s about to make for our sins. The new covenant comes about through His shed blood. He makes this clear in Matthew’s account when He notes,”for this is my blood of the covenant which is pours out for many for forgiveness of sins. He also calls the drink the fruit of the vine. It’s understood from the context the wine is symbolic of His blood.
