That quote doesn’t event mention Peter’s successors, and many Christian apologists assert that it is Peter’s declaration of faith that is the rock that Christ refers to.
You build on “rocks,” not on declarations and the keys have immense significance even in the old Testament. This debate was settled almost 2000 years ago.
Yeah, Al Gore says the same thing about his “Gorebull Warming.” The debate is over, except for everyone who disagrees, of course.
