If you are part of a “safe” church, please run. There is no gospel to be found there. Move on, because there is nothing to be seen in a safe church, other than message after message telling you that you can be a better you if you just keep trying. And if that is the message you want, then quit going to church. Stay home and watch Oprah, or Joel Osteen. They are quite safe.

Safe?

One of the catch phrases that is overused today to prevent “abuse” primarily used by women is to say “that makes me feel uncomfortable.”

I was discussing this with my daughter in Seattle last week. We both agreed that a person who never attempts discussions that make them feel “uncomfortable” will be able to effectively talk out issues that NEED to be talked out.

Running 20k can make a person feel “uncomfortable”. Oddly, people still do it. And it brings rewards. I believe the phrase, “no pain, no gain” comes to mind.

...and that the God of our choosing, doesn’t really hold sin against us.

I see it this way: You will feel the consequences of your sins in this life, no matter how “saved” you are. They teach, if you are saved. They torture, if you are not saved.

But regarding eternity, there is that blood of Christ thing. And every single person will be lost without it, no matter how “good” they are.

preach it bro.

Unfortunately, “safe” extends beyond just not talking about eternal damnation. “Safe” is not dealing with sin at all. Adultery in the congregation, “don’t judge”, i.e. shut up and let it continue. Abortion, shh, it is controversial. Homosexuality, shh, it is an alternate lifestyle. Government oppressing the people, shh, Romans 13 ya know. etc.

Safe churches are culturally irrelevant because they are spiritually evil.

But safe is nice.

And N.I.C.E. will run up against Mr. Bultitude and all that encounter entails.

I thought this was going to be about concealed carry in the sanctuary.

In fact, their stated goal was that they wanted the church to be safe for people.

Are they packing heat?

Excellent.

It astonishes me that the British government now actually HAS a department of N.I.C.E.: National Institute for health and Care Excellence.

I can't decide if they are (1) clueless; or (2) just giving Lewis (and the rest of us) the finger.

Thank Mr. Lewis. He had the bon mot for every occasion. I quote him way too often, but he's just so on point so much of the time.

Indeed. I too was gobsmacked encountering the real life N.I.C.E.

And just as in “That Hideous Strength” the clueless are being lead by those giving us the finger.

How about all the crude unskilled ‘navys’ unleashed by Obama?

I see no reason to get out of bed and get three kids ready every Sunday to go and be told nothing.

My wife was out of town visiting her parents this weekend. Went to church with them and heard, well, nothing.

Meanwhile, back on the home front I heard that Christianity is a religion for people who are messed up beyond belief and Jesus died for those who will put their faith in Him. Now that is worth getting up to hear!

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name and in Your name drive out demons and in Your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ “ Matthew 7:21-23

I had to follow up with her again to find out what they meant by “safe.”

From what she told me, the idea behind a safe church is one that anyone can come to and be comfortable with the messages being preached. In other words, the messages are affirming everyone in who they are without regard to their… well, eternal state.

First thing I thought of was Osteen and his *safe* messages.
