Yes they misinterpreted what He said. He was not talking about temporal food but spiritual. In the same way Jesus had said “my food is to do the will of my Father who is in Heaven.”
It was spiritual nourishment which was/is real food.
Not literally. If you actually did you would be breaking the law of God. I Jesus had actually meant that He would have been breaking the law and would not be sinless.
Perhaps you can quote the Law of God that forbids us from eating the Lamb of God?
There's no confusion. We can compare this scene with an example from Scripture when the followers of the Lord were actually confused about his teaching.
In John 4:32, Jesus says: 'I have food to eat of which you do not know.'
The disciples thought Jesus was speaking about physical food.
Our Lord quickly clears up the point using concise, unmistakable language in verse 34: 'My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to accomplish his work'
But here - when Christ speaks of eating His Body and drinking His Blood - this time He doesn't clear up the confusion. He meant exactly what He said. There was no confusion.
Moreover when we consider the language used by John, the literal interpretation becomes undeniable.
In John 6:50-53 we encounter various forms of the Greek verb phago, 'eating.' . As in 'Sarcophagus'.
However after the Jews begin to express incredulity at the idea of eating Christ’s flesh, the language intensifies.
In verse 54, John begins to use trogo instead of phago. Trogo is a decidedly more graphic term, meaning 'to chew on' or to 'gnaw on'—as when an animal is ripping apart its prey. The text is closer to:
Whoever gnaws on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.

The blood is NOT to be eaten. NOT from the sacrifices or at any time.
Deuteronomy 12:23 Only be sure that thou eat not the blood:
Genesis 9:4 "But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it.
Leviticus 17:10 "'I will set my face against any Israelite or any foreigner residing among them who eats blood, and I will cut them off from the people.

Acts 15:20 but that we write to them that they abstain from things contaminated by idols and from fornication and from what is strangled and from blood.
It was within that setting & perspective that He came to them, lived among them, talked even face-to-face with them --- and gave his own flesh as sacrifice for their sins.
That -- is what He offered to them. The truth of it -- which the carnal, fleshly mind cannot partake of.
As He noted in summation; John 6
So why now argue for a literal "fleshly" understanding of what He plainly enough indicated was beyond earthly flesh & blood?
He indeed is (or can be) bodily present with us when He is consumed sacramentally.
Yet -- the flesh profits nothing, as He is attributed to having said.
Note also-- " 58 This is the bread which came down from heaven—not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.”
Not as your fathers ate the manna. For they ate of it as earthly "bread" nourishment, eating it literally with mouths and teeth to physically swallow.
So what now? Does His now heavenly "flesh" become again (as that descends again to us) form of literal flesh & blood? Or is this 'flesh & blood', this body broken for us ---which we are instructed to consume -- something else instead of the manna which was eaten, by the flesh?

So yes ---what then? How about -- what now, as in --- where did His "flesh & blood" go to when He ascended?
Should we assume that in that same realm which He came down from, and has now returned to --- that He there has the same earthly flesh which He was born into, when He was sent (by way of the womb of the virgin, Mary) to this realm? Or is that 'heavenly' realm quite different that this physical & earthly realm which we now bodily inhabit?
Did He have as "His body", what a carnal understanding of "flesh and blood" is--- during His own preexistence of "all that was made"?
One must take the whole Word, and take each portion in context with all the rest -- and yes -- even from a Hebrew religious perspective -- for as He also said to the woman at the well;
22 You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
There is no confusion...except for those who think in temporal as opposed to heavenly terms...which is why those not granted to see the truth turned away.
It’s not confusing to understand that spiritual food, not temporal is what allows one into Heaven. Christ clearly said He was the fulfilment of the manna from Heaven. They wanted to live temporally so understood His description of the new manna in a temporal way so naturally were disgusted. But spiritual food is far superior because it’s not a meal one must ingest physically over and over to keep the body going. Rather faith in Christ is what nourishes the soul.
The thief on the cross had no food before he died; he had faith and Jesus said he would.see him in Paradise.

If Daniel didn’t mention times and laws being changed or Revelation didnt detail what the satanic trinity would cause people to do, it wouldn’t be an important issue..
The reformation started before the pope Gregory calendar came about..and those reformers had lots to say about the papacy...

If revelation 13 didn’t detail the first four commandments being broken by people following the satanic trinity, it would be a fair opinion to think every day is the sabbath.

After studying the Scriptures, I can tell you there is no place Christians are commanded to keep the Sabbath. To me, your reasoning is a false argument, but let each be examine the Scriptures.
If Rood follows our Heavenly Father’s calendar, then he wouldnt be using Saturn’s day as the biblical Sabbath every week. That day is just the ‘pope appointed’ Sabbath for jews and some christians that recognize the papacy as a vessel for evil.
There really is a group who has changed times and laws (like the Sabbath where our Heavenly Father placed His Seal) and they seem to call themselves christians..

Will you post the verses that describe the Ark in Heaven that holds the ten commandments? Also the verse that says there is an ark still on earth. Indiana Jones will be interested in the latter.

On these two hang all the law.. and Deuteronomy 6 points to Deuteronomy 5 where the ten commandments were listed again..

The pope’s calendar shows today being Tiw’s day, some god nobody knows about..
On our Heavenly Father’s calendar, it is His 3rd day of His week.
We can read scripture to see what our Heavenly Father created on His third day for us and commemorate His awesome creative and redemptive work..
Or we can give gods and godesses like Tiw and Woden and Thor and Friya, etc, glory and their own days each week..
The papacy has changed His commandments, has caused Jews to lose His Sabbath because they use the pope’s calendat that He taught them( so they could then teach us) and has led billions to pick other days not in scripture and call them holy..
Scripture says all of this would happen. And since we are in the end, revelation tells us what to do.
And it isn’t to love or make a lie like the papacy has peddled in every part of their fiber..
Their fables and their lessons do not reflect Torah that became flesh and dwelt among us.
And the 1000s of offshoots known as daughters of that mother are no different if they love, make or accept the same lies.. eternal life is at stake.
Time is short and the enemy plays for keeps..
Revelation 22:14 blessed are they that do His Commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city. Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers, and the fornicators and the murderers and the idolators and everyone who loves and makes a lie.
