I was agin’ him almost from the moment he came walking out on the podium. Something didn’t sit right with me, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. But a few weeks later, over a few beers, another Catholic friend ripped into him and told me about his abysmal record in Argentina. He also speculated on who was behind his election(ie, Cardinal Taj Mahoney almost peeing his pants in excitement in tweets as soon as he was elected). My friend’s point of view was vindicated. I can’t say if Francis is a bumpkin, well intentioned, or has bad motives. But there’s no question that the Lavender Mafia and the liberals who want to change the Church from within elected him to protect their interests, and now it’s going to blow up in their faces.

I saw news articles about there being some faction in the Vatican that was making things difficult for Benedict. Wasn’t very detailed though. So, I don’t know if it was just rumors.
