I have an idea; I don't see him in 2 Cor 2. I know some do. Neither his name, nor his marriage, nor his divorce, nor his sin, nor his death is mentioned. Perhaps he repented and his sentence of death was amended in a last minute reprieve. Perhaps not. Imagine him as a man whose sin was molesting little children. Could I see 1 Cor 5 applying to him ? Yes; could I see 2 Cor 2. ? Not so much, and Paul said his sin was so severe it was not even named among the Gentiles (in Corinth, no less so that was really bad) yet I'm content to be Jonah here and let God show mercy where he will show mercy.

It was NOT at the word of Peter. Peter didn't lay a hand on them nor did he direct anyone else to. Peter didn't do it by mind power or any supernatural power. To somehow credit or place blame on Peter is ludicrous.
