Church Asks Music Director to Resign After He Married Same-Sex Partner; Congregation Laments

Members of Minnesota Catholic Church are lamenting over the resignation of their music director of 17 years who was asked to leave his position after marrying his same-sex partner.

Jamie Moore served at St. Victoria Catholic Church for a little less than two decades and was beloved by much of the congregation. Several of the church's choir members recently voiced their disappointment over the matter to KARE11 News.

"I think it's unfortunate," said member Judy Janish. "I think people should be able to marry who they love and who they belong with."

June Henning, who served alongside Moore for 17 years, also expressed disgust over the decision made by Archbishop John Nienstedt.

"I'm disappointed that somebody's out there that says somebody is not good enough," she said.

Father Bob White of St. Victoria's addressed the congregation this past weekend and confessed that losing Moore felt like a death in the family.

"It's something no one would have wanted," he said. "But in the end, the archbishop could not find a way to reconcile Moore's decision to marry with the teachings of the Church."

Moore received a standing ovation after White's addressed the crowd. He also clarified the reasoning behind the decision.

"It is simply that the Church believes that sacramental marriage is between a man and a woman, and there's certain relationships it doesn't recognize," he said. "It doesn't make a judgment about that person; that they are a bad person."

Moore released a statement earlier this week expressing his love for the members of the church and his thoughts on the decision.

"While there are some who don't welcome everyone into the greater Catholic Church, I know that the vast majority of people at St. Victoria live lives that are truly examples of the way Christ would live; free of judgment, filled with love."

This is not a religion issue.

This is a common sense issue.

It is simply illogical to allow those with this sexual fetish behavior anywhere near children. It is illogical to society to promote such a behavior fetish which contributes NOTHING to society.

The selective anecdote quotes are just the left trying to limit opposition are “merely religions” and thus defining the pro hedonist side as “logical”. IOW religion = illogical. To argue religion alone concedes the debate to the enemy.

I knew a man years ago who moved out of town. . Seems he got up in front of the choir, announced he was a homo, was kicked out of he choir right then and out of the church a few days later. It was a SBC.

But if they were already living together as a married couple would, then why was this not an issue for the Church?

Was it in their face? Did the morally bankrupt twosome make it an issue?

These days the church rarely looks into the pre-marital living arrangements even of heterosexuals.

Truthfully I don’t care. It is against God’s law and a slap in the face of God and His design. It can’t be condoned.

And Judy Janish and the rest of the cafeterial liberal “catholics” need to find another faith that believes in sodomite “marriage. And do me a favor, don’t let the door hit you in the rear end.

To be Catholic you either believe in the Catechism of the Catholic Church AND EVERYTHING it contains or you have ceased being Catholic. There is no in between. You are either in 100% or you are not Catholic. The problem we have are coward priests that will not tell these characters the truth. But the EXACT SAME THING happens in any protestant denomination in the world.

How the heck can a person who’s obviously gay be allowed to even have a leadership position in any kind of Church? Sorry, but unrepentant sin, Is the Gospel even being preached at this “Church”?

Christianity flourished in the midst of the excesses and collapse of the Roman Empire because it stood for a strong morale foundation and a belief in something larger than self. This is being destroyed in front of our very eyes.

...and being replaced by Islam, which offers a strong moral foundation and a belief in something larger than self. Because the Christian church no longer does.

I love my mother; she loves me.

Would Miz Judy approve of our marriage?

Islam, which offers a strong moral foundation and a belief in something larger than self.

Islam is a very selfish religion wherein everyone submits to the rule and whims of a single ruler. It is a religion designed for subjugation and enslavement, not much of a basis for a strong moral foundation.

Given the state of “music” in most Novus Ordo parishes, I would be in favor of the entire choir resigning in protest.

Meanwhile, the statements from outraged parishioners quoted in the excerpt show the utter lack of catechesis among Catholics in the post-conciliar church.

...if not for the fact that I know I didn’t write the above, I’d have thought I did...

It’s always a bit surprising to note how many Catholics seem okay with just subverting the Church’s values.

...no more surprising than the Church just subverting the traditional worship of the Faithful, basically to satisfy whimsical notions of ‘ecumenism’...

There are Roman Catholics here who don’t believe God an Allah are the same, which is contrary to the teachings of the RV catechism.

"Sounds like a lot of Catholic thinking I have encountered."

I find it odd that you would characterize a line of thought in direct opposition to Catholic Doctrine as "Catholic thinking."

And while we agree with those FRoman Catholics who don't believe God and Allah are the same, we'd be remiss not to remind them not to be "cafeteria Catholics" by picking and choosing what parts of the catechism that they will adhere to.
